An interesting tidbit from Edwards's conference call last Friday:
The campaign did a nice job of giving some insight into what they thought was going on in the campaign.

One thing they said was that Edwards does really well among voters who are asked whom they've ruled out. They didn't give the exact numbers, but it sounds like there are very few voters who've ruled him out, whereas the other candidates are having a bigger problem in this area.

Extrapolate from that what you will...

1. Interesting
That's the kind of number that indicates a possible suprise in a caucus. Won't help much in a primary, but could Edwards surprise us with a 3rd place in IA?

2. He's almost in last place in Georgia
In a recent poll Edwards was number 8 of the 9 candidates among likely Democratic voters. And he's slipped badly in South Carolina. Edwards has almost no traction left to his campaign.

3. He will be on 60 Minutes tonight,
and I hope the national exposure will open a few eyes about this exceptionally great candidate.

5. finally a blink in the media's blackout on him
like I've been saying all along, he'll be left standing when the others self destruct as they are doing.

6. Last man standing theory
I really like Edwards best, only I am waiting for his campaign strategy to emerge from the twilight. In the past I have noted such strategies have never materialized and Edwards' campaign has seemed a little second rate qualitatively except for himself. It's a crazy world and giving people the benefit or the hope has been =disappointed 99% of the time- at least in politics.

I think mainly it is waiting for blood being spilled to allow him to break through to the fore publicly or in the bargaining of support. Not a happy prospect even if it did benefit him.

7. I love Edwards, and it killed me to break ranks

I just think, looking at the polls as a whole, that it's fanciful to see him emerging as the anti-Dean, and I think only Clark has what it takes.

If this reverses, I'll be right back on board, but until then, it's Clark

He can win SC sure, and do well in NH, but that seems to be about it.

Clark on the other hand, could win 3 or 4 of the feb 3 states, as well as California and Texas. This is according to polls, not just wishful thinking.

I'm ABB, but firstly I'm ABD(andG) ((dean and gephardt))

11. My feeling exactly! Edwards is on C-SPAN live now taking questions.
He just gave a great speech.

And I keep going back and forth between him and Clark.

12. I wish I had cable - I'd love to see that speech
Edwards is a great orator!

Clark and Edwards in '04 - our only truly unbeatable ticket...everything else is a roll of the dice...
