The Kucinich-Edward deal may make John my second choice
I like Wesley Clark, but it's disturbing to me how he supports School of the Americas. And this is not a case of being disappointed in Clark, but more of me getting more and more impressed by John Edwards. Anyway, a man that DK wants to, in essense, vote for has got to be a great candidate. Plus, he's from the South and has money, so his electability is through the roof. Anyway, if Edwards comes out of Iowa strong, I look forward to taking a closer look at him.

1. Agree with you on Edwards

Disagree on Clark...SOA was horrendous at one time. That is no longer the case. But many people choose to overlook the changes that have occurred there over the last 10 years and focus on its ugly history and have used that to discredit Clark. Thats not fair, but politics isn't fair.

Anyway, I'm really glad Edwards is beginning to come on strong. I really like him!

7. Please justify the School of Americas
I'm not angry or pressuring you. I really want to know. It may come in handy against a Clark basher.

9. The SOA is indefensible
and always has been. Even if it has reformed it STILL is devoted to the same reprehensible goals. I like Clark, and won't use this to discredit him, but the SOA is a horrible tool of US imperialism no matter it having been 'reformed'

2. Edwards has been running a neg
leaflet campaign to stop the afsme people from turning out and it
has worked. According to a Dean leader 3/4 of them won't turn out.
If this is true and I got it from the leader on the Dean blog then Edwards is hypocrite of high proportions.

4. Such a serious charge should offer a link
so we can decide for ourselves. Without a link, its malicious gossip.

5. I think Edwards would make a great VP
Edited on Mon Jan-19-04 07:45 PM by youngred
I don't think he's set for the top slot yet though. Give him 8 years in a dem administration and he will mop the floor with the republicans for all the reasons you list.

edit to add: I like Edwards and think he would make a bang up candidate, but I fear his inexperience coming back to haunt him.

8. I don't understand...
Edited on Mon Jan-19-04 07:51 PM by liberalmuse
is there a thread that explains why Kucinich would back someone who voted for IWR and The Patriot Act? I like Edwards, but I don't understand.

Right now, I'm glad I went with my gut and am backing Dean. Kucinich is closest to my viewpoints, but I wanted more from a potential U.S. President than someone I agree with on most issues. I'm disillusioned right now, because by telling his supporters in Iowa to back Edwards, it kind of cancels out his anti-war and anti-Patriot Act stance as being vitally important to him and his campaign. Can a hardcore Kucinich or Edwards supporter explain what I might be missing here? Thanks!

10. Its an agreement
Edited on Mon Jan-19-04 08:01 PM by youngred
that is beneficial to both. In an area where neither of them will get the 15% one or the other will ask their supporters to throw their votes to the other so that one of them gets some representation from that area. Look beyond the Patriot Act vote and IWR vote and you'll see that there are broad connections between the views of Edwards and Kucinich. Virtually EVERYONE voted for the patriot act because of the atmosphere of the country at the time and Iraq is one issue among many.

11. 1980's in general
It's not just the School of Americas, it's the entire 80's that I wonder about. The more I've thought about it, the more I've decided to go back to Edwards as my #2. He's an awesome human being!
