Just got a DNC mailing in my inbox asking for a donation to fund the WA recount. First, I'm glad they are. Second, I'm sure they have the $700,000 and are simplying using this episode as a fundraiser. Third, I'm still ticked at the money the Kerry general campaign didn't spend and is sitting on.

I trust I'm not alone on this one.

You'd think he'd make an appearance in WA to support Gregoire but trying to
get a DNC Chairman who's going to favor your 2008 candidacy (now that Vilsack is out) can be hard work.

Everything is not John Kerry's fault. He already gave 30 million (BEFORE THE ELECTION) to the DNC. He left 15 million in his account in case there was a full fledged recount and to cover any outstanding expenses from the primary. After the expenses clear, he's said that the money will go towards supporting state and local candidates in the 2005 and 2006 elections.

There are two reasons this shitty story is being spread around (and it's sad that so many people are buying into it): a. Republicans want to undermine the small donor base that really helped the Democrats this year. They want people to NOT donate in 2008, and sadly their strategy appears to be working. b. some Democrats who had their own ambitions in 2008 are upset because they didn't give away 30 million to the party (and by extension various candidates for federal and state offices) this year. They're also upset because they don't have the resources to give away money in the 2006 election. One of the biggest hypocrites of this story is Donna Brazile: here's a fact, Al Gore had 8 million left over in his accoutn and people said that wasn't enough to fight the Florida recount. Gore hung onto that money until he decided not to run for president in 2004. Then he gave it to the party.

Kerry gave away 30 million as soon as he could--if he had done it any earlier there would've been tons of headlines saying, "Kerry is violating the spirit of campaign finance laws." The DNC got--and spent--Kerry's 30 million. He left 15 million in his account in case there was a full-fledged recount (and there are valid reasons why that really hasn't happend) and to cover any outstanding expenses he had from the primary. He has said that he is going to give the money away to Democratic candidates as soon as the expenses clear. I'm tired of the jealousy from the Bush and Gore camps.

8. DNC and Washington

First of all I won't give to the DNC, gave them many dollars during the last month before the election, second Kerry just handed the DNC money leftover from his campaign. What is the DNC doing with their money? Where is their accountability? Several days before the election I would receive 4-5 emails a day asking for money to help out. I can't give anymore. I have bills to pay.

It should be two pronged, a recount and a full blown investigation of irregularities in Washington. If big problems are found, especially with the counting tabulator hardware and software that would open the door for a nationwide investigation. All under the cover of recounting a very close Governor race without looking like sore losers nationwide.
