It is sooooo unfair that our kids get sent off to die by someone they didn't get a chance to vote for or against. To say that the voters took their interest to heart when they voted would be another huge lie - but that does seem to be the way this country operates.

7. That's really an unfair comment.

Implying that if the election were up to young America we would vote for our favorite pop star (not my favorite, but my generation has apperently taken a liking to Mr. Mathers). I know many young people, Democrats and Republican (Young Repubs...a concept I willl never understand), who take th eelections VERY seriously and do not make decisions like who they willl vote for lightly. Also, in suggesting young America would elect a rap artist you illustrate why young Americans get so aggravated with a system that refuses to take us seriously. Just a few thoughts.

When you look at turnout as a Percentage of the people who voted young people turnout was not high at all, and close to the numbers in 2000 so these idiots trying to say the youth vote came out in force is a fucking joke. Had they come out in force maybe things would have been different

12. I have something to add to your point...

Many of us young people waited in lines an hour or more long to vote. I had to wait slightly more than an hour to cast my vote, and that was in rural Missouri at the Truman State University precinct. I'm sick of people (not you, youngred, but the poster to whom you are replying) blaming us for low turnout when we did turn out, but we were neutralized by a combination of more fundie turnout and probably election fraWd.

Seems weird, that without the 30+ vote, we'd actually LOSE Maine, yet GAIN a state from the DEEEEP South in Mississippi (I don't count Ark/LA/Carolinas, since with the right candidate, they'd still swing anyway...but MS??)

14. I go to school in rural Maine

and am actually from Southern Maine, and have to tell you it is scary how many young Repugs we have in this area, my roommate is a huge Bush supporter (which has led to a few heated debates after a few beers) and even after discussing politics with him for hour upon hours I have still not figured out why...except that his parents are Republicans. The way I see it (I could be wrong) Maine is a very liberal state in the southern and coastal parts where a majority of the population and wealth is, but in the more rural areas it is very conservative. Maine state universities (lower priced schools) are mostly made up of Maine residents, so their parents are the Republicans of the state. Many of the children (aka young voters) of the liberals in Maine end up going out of state to school so perhaps Maine young liberals are voting in the state they attend school. Also, Maine has a huge problem keeping youth in the state, good jobs just aren't available to them here, so a lot of the more intelligent people leave the state as soon as possible, only to return later in life so you also have that factor to include, during the ages of say 18 to 40 the liberals from Maine are living in other parts of the country.
