Does anyone think that Cheney will step down in two years

for health reasons so they will have an incumbant VP to run in '08? Maybe they promised this to McCain to buy his support. Or Rudy, although I don't think they needed to buy RG's support, it was there for the taking.

Even if there is a plan, it will crash. Even those who would want Bush's approval as the nuttiest and least likely to take Bush's skeletons out of the closet wouldn't want to be taking blame for the poor outcomes. Being VP isn't THAT much of a plus.

More likely, Cheney stick it out and Bush will back somebody for purposes of the faithful who isn't part of the Iraq disaster, foreign currency drop, economic doldrums, the Plame voting Halliburton scandals, etc etc.

Rudy is a bigot, hypocrit, and puppet (blamed our soldiers instead of the Bush adm. publically, etc.)
McCain is a hypocrit & puppet (if he weren't, he'd have changed parties after what Bushie did to him and his family when he was Bush's opponent)

Either puppet would suit the Bush regime, because they have their own isolated "glass house plan" anyway. And even if Cheney stepped down, he'd probably be on board with a fat "consultant" fee paid with our tax dollars anyway.

I think that his ego will overcome both his poor health and any pressure from the RNC. He won't be forced out either, since Bush is pathologically averse to even implying that he made a mistake at some point, and he'd be casting away his remaining intellectual credibility and gravitas. Finally, the base just loves Crashcart for some reason, and I would bet that keeping him in is part of the bargain.
