a scanner in every booth that will, before leaving the booth and handing in ones vote, check for over votes, under votes, and hanging chads. No butterfly types - simple one card linear voting cards with a prominent black line separating the candidates in each category. Then all we would have to worry about is corrupt election officials. I'm sure they have been with us all throughout our nations history, but one way to lessen their impact would be to go back to popularly elected election officials. Identify them by party affiliation because we all know that there is no such thing as an independent appointed election official - just look at Ohio this year or my state of Florida in 2000. In my opinion, this would go a long way toward correcting the problems of the last few elections.
