Primary Scab Picker: Did Brazille want Mosely Braun in to deflect Sharpton

Rumor had it back in the day that Donna Brazile, former Al Gore campaign manager, urged vociferously to Carol Mosely–Braun to run for President to deflect the minority vote from the Reverend Al Sharpton.



Remember the debates. There was always some friction between them.



Also, remember how Sharpton would always talk in colorful terms about Teresa in the debates.

1. Obviously Someone Did

Maybe it was Donna Brazile.

Carol Mosely-Braun did her job, took an arrow. If JK had won the presidency, she'd be in line for HUD, Ag or Education.

but I believe the sister was looking for a job and needed a platform for exposure. She would not have divided the blk vote from Al, she is a centrist and blks connect with Reverend Al. Some of us might not like him but we GET him. Also, during the debates she was joined to Dean's hip like white on rice!

4. I think it was to help get women and blacks to register early

if there was a dem primary in their states. Get the new voters out there like Jesse Jackson did for the party in 88 so that more people would be registered early.

8. not really, as Angee said, Braun isn't all that popular among blacks or

women. she insisted during the campaign that she wasn't like most other Democratic politicians who are black and female. she said how some would be surprised with some of the positions she took on issues. and she dropped out before the iowa caucuses.

Sharpton on the other hand does great not only among black voters but women and anyone else who actually gets to hear him. sharpton got third place behind Edwards and Kerry in the South Carolina primary.

9. Not to nitpick, but I don't think of Carol as a centrist.

She's pro-legalization of marijuana, pro-gay marriage, anti-death penalty, etc.

One of the reasons why I like her... ;)

3. It was very shrewd to cast Braun in that role

because she had no understanding of the issues, no political views of her own, no experience in government worth mentioning, no telegenic qualities, no wit, no charm, nothing.

She was the perfect vessel.

I'm surprised the Rove didn't tap her first.

5. Is it possible she actually wanted to run for President because

she thought she had a decent shot to give people a run for their money?

While I know it's possible that she was a stealth candidate with an agenda, I feel it's wrong to assume that out of hand.

No one seems to acknowledge the possibility that maybe CMB felt it was her time to step up to the plate and give it a shot.

I would like to acknowledge the possibility.

Edited to note: She was one of the only candidates to denounce the Patriot Act in the debates.
