Dean makes it clear - He wants the DNC chair and will forego Prez...
run if he gets it. He said this on MTP today.

I've been waiting for him to make a statement about his feelings on this and now that he has how can we influence the decision? Does anyone have an email listing of the DNC voters? If so, could you post it or a link to it?

It was obvious that he gave a lot of thought on the best way to accomplish change in the party and he came down on the side of running for chair. It's time for us to do our part to help him realize this goal.

2. A really good place to start...
Edited on Sun Dec-12-04 12:10 PM by itzamirakul
is this website.

www.mydd.com

I just got it through a link here on the board this AM and I went there and I was blown away. Some of the most prolific and well-known of our bloggers and members of the DNC have an open blog going there and discussing what happened at the meeting Saturday. And they are not pulling punches! You can register (easily) and post if you wish, so this would be a good place to begin to understand the heirarchy of the party and how to get your preferences known and noted for action.

I'll Admit That This Was One of My Reservations About Dean as DNC Chair
It's going to take a lot of work and focus to change the Democratic Party and he couldn't do that if he was going to run again in 08. He'd have to resign to start campaigning almost as soon as he started as party chairman.

But if Dean has decided that this is where he can make the most difference, then more power to him.

I looked it up before I posted- that's what the site said, but you could be right. Never trust the internet. :)

On edit: Another site says "Turn and face the stranger" (as in he's changing, coming to terms with a different person as himself)

5. Dean
As a young voter, Dean got my attention and turned me onto politics. With that said, I hate to admit that I feel that he is unelectable for President. He just doesn't look Presidential (but then again the Doofus in there now sure doesn't look Presidential). If Dean would become the nominee in 2008 then he would get all of the Liberal Northeastarner, "he's from the small state of Vermont", and the Scream crap thrown at him.

Dean's image might not be electable, but his message sure is. Late in the campaign it seemed that everything that John Kerry was saying, Dean said first. As DNC chair, Dean can help frame the debates in this country. I feel he would be very effective at doing that.

9. fuck yeah
it's the message that counts, we just need the right person to deliver it. His message certainly is a winning one, that's why REPUBLICANS stopped him in the primary. KKKarl Rove was on his knees thanking Jesus when we chose Kerry instead of Dean.

I'm no Dean for Prez fan (I tend to agree with your assessment), but I'd love to see him as DNC chair.

15.  Dean is not that old. After he is DNC chair and he gets more well known
I think he'd have a great shot at the presidency. However running anytime soon they would paint him as a Northeastern liberal which he isn't really. The one thing that Dean DOES understand, as he said on the program was some of the values of rural voters and that is a very good thing for the democrats.

I thought his talk on MTP was great and I thought he was Frank Luntzing the Republicans returning over and over to the deficit and the Cut Taxes and Spend mantra.

19. Former Congressman, Governor of Michigan, Ambassador to Canada
He also ran Bill Clinton's campaign in Michgian in 1992.

http://pview.findlaw.com/view/1722563_1?noconfirm=0

Mr. Blanchard was named Ambassador to Canada in May 1993, after serving two terms as Governor of Michigan (1983-1991) and four terms as a Member of the United States Congress (1975-1983). In 1992, he chaired President Clinton's successful campaign in Michigan. Governor Blanchard is also former chairman of the Democratic Governors Association and the National Democratic Platform Committee, as well as a former member of the National Governors Association's Executive Committee.

On January 1, 1983, he took over what was described as "the toughest governor's job in America." His state faced a $1.7 billion deficit, the threat of bankruptcy, record high unemployment of more than 17 percent, and the worst credit rating in America. Working with leaders of business, labor, education, and local government, the Governor put together a strategy for Michigan's future and made the tough decisions necessary to keep it on track. Jim Blanchard completed his work as Michigan's 45th Governor having balanced eight consecutive state budgets, boosted the state's credit rating to "AA," established a $422 million "rainy-day fund," and produced a "solvency dividend" of more than $1 billion in savings from reduced borrowing costs. Similarly, his aggressive small business, and economic development efforts helped create more than 650,000 net new jobs, improve the business climate, increase companies' global competitiveness, and make Michigan's economy 35 percent more diversified than a decade earlier.

Newsweek credited Gov. Blanchard with leading "one of the most dramatic economic turnabouts in the recent history of state government," and national publications such as U.S. News and World Report listed Jim Blanchard among the best governors in America, one of the innovators and energizers who made things work in an era of declining federal aid.

21. We really DO allow differing viewpoints at DU. I prefer Dean, but I like
Blanchard as well.

What I like about Dean is his ability to engage the grassroots. We can't compete with the RadRight in terms of money, but we can put them up against the wall in volunteer energy!

18. He's obviously campaigning for the job....
He's trying to convince the "insiders" that he would be the best man for the job. But, if he takes that job, he would not be a candidate in 2008.

22. He can put dozens of Dems in Congress in '06; if he really cares
about the party and the nation (and I think he sincerely does) that is what he will do.

We don't have any time to waste for '06. The campaigns need to start now.
