Poll question: Dick Durbin or Barack Obama

Which Senator from Illinois do you like better?
Even though Barack hasn't started yet I would say that they will both be two of the best people in the Senate.

because I feel like Durbin is an old friend.

Durbin is reliable. Obama got a lot of national attention with his speech at the convention but I want to see if his bite is as good as his bark. Maybe I should have divided the poll up between people who are and or not from Illinois.

I don't know whether Obama will be a courage Senator or one who tries to fit in yet.

but I like both from what I know a lot. Durbin's office was kind enough to let me apply but I got turned down because of my age, I am trying now ith Congressman Dingell of Michigan, *Fingers crossed* please, oh please.

12. What did you apply for?

If I were to apply for an internship, his office would be one of my first choices, along with Jon Corzine, Russ Feingold, or Barbara Boxer. I'd prefer not to apply for a job with either of the senators from my state, Mary Landrieu or Puke David Vitter.

Oh I started out by applying for Kennedy, couldnt get in there because someone from another class got it. Then I tried Durbin but because I am a HS student, I couldn't get it but they accepted an application, I then tried Sarbanes, Schumer, Kerry, but they were filled up or prefered people from their home states. I actually met Mary Landrieu on a class field trip, she was all right but she's way too moderate for me. So now, I am trying to get a job with John Dingell, the most senior member of congress, who has been there since the 50's, he's good, a good new deal type dem who is actually quite liberal on social issues, liberal economically.

If I fail to get one with any of my favorite senators I might try Dennis Kucinich. I've met Landrieu twice, once on the class trip to DC, once at a Kerry fundraiser here in New Orleans. Personally I don't think that she's a bad senator or anything, but I certainly don't think of her as a person of any great ability.

what year? She's all right but she's not my favorite, I did appreciate her doing good on Hannity and Colmes though. She took a while to meet with us but she was friendly, but a lot of people in my class didn't really like her.

Ive had a tough time thus far though, everyone else in my class has been placed. There are some great things you get from living around here, and that class is one of them. Dingell has so much history in congress, I was at his homepage the other day and I saw pictures of him with Truman, JFK, LBJ, Carter, Clinton, all sorts of dems through out the last half century. He's been in congress since before my mom was even born, thats how long he's been there. He also was John Conyers boss for a long time when Conyers was a congressional aide.

Until Obama shows a similar act of courage and integrity, ha cannot compare (I hope he will). Just pretty speeches aren't enough.

who voted against the war. The other was Paul Wellstone. Maybe Durbin has some good reasons he doesn't talk about running for President like Wellstone did.

I thought Obama was more well known nationally after his convention speech. I guess DU is a well informed crowd.

apparently, if you recall pre convention, he called Bush sincere and people got on his ass for it. Now, I like both of them and as a Virginian who has two bad senators, I'd be happy to have either.

I can't say I like him more than Durbin until I see how he legislates/votes.

30. That's right and then Durbin can just slide right into the leader's

chair. He will definitely be the Majority/Minority leader someday. Yay! I LOVE Durbin! He answers every one of my emails by snail mail and often he send me email responses that he writes himself. He's a pro-active Senator. I just adore him!

but I am too young for that job but hey, the fact that his office wanted me to send an application in it is good enough and my mom's first ex is related to him, ok not really, thats what my grandma thinks but in jest.

34. I did an internship for Durbin

when I was attending a community college. That was in his district the first year he ran for US Senate while he was still a Congressman. So it can be done. Good luck.
