This diary lays it all out...the whole RW think tank organization and history, as well as how they use homophobia to help fund it all and drive voters. Anybody who posts on DU will want to read this.

2. I loved the post.

This is one of my favorite subjects - the history of the Religious Right. Much can be found at the People for the American Way site, the Americans United for Church and State site, and TheocracyWatch.

I also loved David Brock's documentation of it in his two books, 'Blinded by the Right,' and 'The Republican Noise Machine.'

Anybody who wants to be an effective progressive (liberal) has got to read this, and be aware of the incredible structure that they have built.


I try to warn my father-in-law about this, because many of the central characters in today's religious right belong to the secretive Council for National Policy, and Richard Land has at least spoken there. Richard Land is an Ethics Commissioner for the Southern Baptist Convention. So, when one gives to their Southern Baptist church, that contributes to his salary, and, in turn, to religious right political bullying. Beware, I say.

I'll check them out. Have been interested in reading Brock's book for a while (Blinded), but I hadn't heard of the other.

I think the thing that most interests me is whether that sort of organization can be adapted to fit the left. I certainly don't want to create a RW scapegoat, as they've done to gays, but their organizational and funding structures are impressive.
