If Dean becomes DNC chair, who will be Democratic Party spokesperson?

Poll question: If Dean becomes DNC chair, who will be Democratic Party spokesperson?

Harry Reid is the top elected official in the party, but Dean is much better known. Who will get the most media attention and become the unofficial spokesperson of the party? I have to wonder if Reid would be overshadowed since the media loves to cover Dean.

1. NOBODY is picking Reid?

The guy that has actual power to do something in the Senate.

I think the answer is probably Dean, but I'm surprised it's so one sided so far.

3. It's not as if there's just one spokesperson

and it's not as if there should be just one. Hopefully Obama will be a powerful spokesman. Pelosi will clearly continue to speak out, and I assume Reid will become quite familiar to the American public. Dean will continue to speak out whether or not he becomes DNC chair. Kerry also has the opportunity to represent his party.

4. I like Reid But I He's not that outspoken

I'm hoping that if Dean wins the DNC chair that he will work with the Senate especially Reid and become the voice of the Democratic party. But that's just wishful thinking I guess.

5. We need multiple spokespeople who are hopefully somewhat

coordinated in their message. The DNC chair, Reid, Kerry.

If we only have one spokesperson, we are screwed.

We are going to have a hard time getting a message out when we control nothing anyway.

8. I don't know why everything seems to be treated like it is an either/or

proposition.

We need to increase the number of respected and prominent Democratic representatives in the country - both politicians and non-politicians.

I think Wes Clark is also a great spokesperson for the Dems. I hope we see him all the time.

No one (and I really mean NOBODY) is as effective as Elizabeth Edwards as a spokesperson for the Democrats. She can explain complex policy issues in an understandable and non-condescending manner to absolutely anyone.

We need to encourage multiple leaders, not just one or two.

Very smart lady too, I know she's also a lawyer. Yep we need all sorts of leaders, I couldn't agree more.

11. Dems only get so much media time

Not many people will get the 5 second clip on the evening news and get the most major interviews. The media is likely to focus more on one person than several for the majority of it's coverage.

but yeah Dean is definely more well known than Reid for sure, even non political people since my friends know who Dean is.

10. Dean would be the primary but not sole spokesman.

The ability to articulate the issues in a clear and entertaining way would be one of the strengths that Dean would bring to the position. He'd get the coverage because he's, well he's, Howard Dean. A less well known and let's face it a less controversial DNC chair would not get the sort of coverage Dean would and probably Reid would play a bigger role.

I don't think that the media covering Dean, and people actually watching, in the hope that they'll get to see "I had a scream" part 2. is necessarily a bad thing. Assuming Dean's learned to maintain the connection between brain and mouth, and his for Kerry and the party between the primaries and the election makes me think he has, his ability to get media coverage and get the Democratic vision out there could do big deal to help the party.

At the point were the Democrats are now any coverage is good coverage. You can't beat someone with no one.

12. I'm guessing this is why Dean isn't supported by

Reid, Pelosi and any other Democrat in the Senate who wants to get some media time. Just a guess. Well, that and maybe the fact that Dean just spent two years telling Democratic leaders how they all suck big time.
