Are most state Democratic Party Chairs part-time and/or unpaid?? |
|
I recently discovered that here in Louisiana, all democratic parish executive committee members, and offices including chair/vice chair; treasurer and secretary are unpaid and unstaffed. They are elected party officeholders and also volunteers.
Is it like this in most states? Is there somewhere I can find more information about this?

2. I think they're unpaid here in GA... |
|
since the one county chair I know is even poorer than I am! I recently replaced some electrical breakers in her house for free since she couldn't afford to pay a professional to fix them.

3. Yes. Dean wants to change that. |
|
He wants to take DNC money and funnel it into state organizations so that they can get Dems elected at state and local levels.
I don't know how well that'll go over with the "powers that be," though.

6. in that case, screw the powers that be |
|
We need money here in Louisiana (and other states) as it turns out. If these Chairpersons and their leutenants were paid and had a budget (even if quite small) could make a huge difference in red states like these and their elections.
I am very excited about the Dean's Idea!

12. Not as little as I thought |
|
$40,000.
There are 3 or 4 paid staffers, as well. I don't know their salaries but I know they aren't in the same range as the Chair.

8. Not sure about State Party Chair but staff is paid |
|
County chairs are not paid. Mostly volunteers to answer phones and other party work. When campaigns start up then there will be a few more paid workers but not much.

9. Is it the same way with the Republican party? |
|
There is plenty of money to be spread to the county/parish democrats. Just a little dough, a few appearences, and some national help could make the difference between loosing and winning.

11. Our county repug probably has a few paid positions. |
|
Not chair but other functions. They bring in the money. Plus they don't have to pay rent on the building.

10. party officers are usually unpaid |
|
they have other jobs in most cases. Most state parties do have paid staff. Most local parties do not.
