Mark Warner -- is he term limited?

I read somewhere that Mark Warner was term limited as governor of Virginia. I thought he had only served one term, but maybe I was wrong. Would appreciate if anyone could shed some light. And does he have Presidential aspirations? I'd much rather see him run based on the information I can get on him instead of just about anyone else currently mentioned.

I think you can only serve a term at a time in VA, though I haven't looked up the law.

And thank God too. Gilmore and Allen were nightmares.

i imagine he will go around the country and campaign for and raise money for democrats who will be running for elections in 2006.

and if he plans to run for president he goes into 2007 to start his primary campaign.

He can't serve two terms consecutively, but he can sit out for four years then run again.

It's funny how this rule applies to political decisions: when Jim Gilmore decided to bankrupt the state with that "No Car Tax" crap, he put forth a five-year plan, knowing he'd only serve for four. So in the fifth year, he leaves Warner to clean up the mess. Much like Clinton, now the Virginia republicans can blame Warner for the mess.

Yet one more reason I'd like to see him take George Allen's seat in the Senate, kind of like a snub to the whole Allen-Gilmore legacy.

Warner has been a great governor and is very popular. He cleaned up the financial mess and is now proposing more money for education and health care, while cutting the sales tax on groceries. He's a great Democrat. He's a former state party chair. But I guess he doesn't pass your bullshit ideological purity test.

Mark Warner got the Virginia legislature to rescind idiotic tax cuts in order to fund education, health care and other social services. YOu think there was no difference between Clinton and Bush.

Clinton raised taxes on the wealthy, Bush cut taxes on the wealth. Clinton protected social security and Medicare. Bush is trying to end these programs. Clinton expanded health care for children and made college more affordable. Bush reversed those things. Clinton fought to protect Abortion rights. Bush has already scaled them back. This is just the start.

Most people I know are still pissed at Warner for shutting down the DMVs. For a while there, it was like being in the old Soviet Union.....4-5 hour waits in the cold just to get in the building, with lots of armed guards there to "keep us in line".

is in the high 60s. The stuff he did with the dmv's was very smart. It demonstrated the state of the fiscal crisis. This was instrumental in getting Republicans to pass real tax reform and fight with each other over the shape of that reform. The state is in good financial health now. Compare that to Maryland, which has a huge structural gap because Ehrlich won't do anything but talk about slots.

He hasn't come out and said what he's going to do when his term is up. Rumors are either a Senate run or a Presidential bid.

I think he would be a great choice for either.

I'm sick of running unexciting candidates who can't appeal to half the country (even if it's because that half had been brainwashed by Fox News). Is Warner a fighter? Go to the cspan archives and look up his DNC speech. Besides that, he's a popular governor in a state where he had to raise taxes. He's also very moderate and a much better choice than bayh or Edwards.
