The BBC recently ran a controversial three part tv series entitled "The Power of Nightmares" which will never be shown on american tv. The programs trace the development of two radical groups/movements: the american neoconservatives and the radical islamists. The story starts back in the forties. Imagine: Al Quaida is a myth created to control us.
The three programs are available at a number of sites on the internet, for free. There are two versions, a lower quality set of files which can be viewed online or downloaded (realaudio) and a higher quality set (bittorrent) which can be downloaded and burned on dvd. The programs are each an hour long.
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/video1037.htmShould we be worried about the threat from organised terrorism or is it simply a phantom menace being used to stop society from falling apart?"In the past our politicians offered us dreams of a better world. Now they promise to protect us from nightmares.
The most frightening of these is the threat of an international terror network. But just as the dreams were not true, neither are these nightmares.
In a new series, the Power of Nightmares explores how the idea that we are threatened by a hidden and organised terrorist network is an illusion."
