Edited on Sun Jan-02-05 08:17 AM by Brundle_Fly
here in canada.

I had to watch, I had to see to know. I had to watch...

conclusion.

I have never seen that many ads for drugs before in my life.
I can't imagine having television like that, and not feeling like something is wrong. Seriously Wrong, with my country.

1. Enjoy
Wait until you get to personally watch the spectacle that is Hannity & Colmes-a mental midget vs the spineless.

4. Colmes looks like a fraggle
I have never seen such an odd looking man.

Must be a part of the plan, make the "dem" seem alien.

14. Yep that was the first thing I thought too
and then I watched the show and realized what was going on. Hannity couldn't win an argument against a can of paint so they not only get an odd looking former standup comedian on "against" him he doesn't actually argue anything.

for stiffy inducing drugs?

It seems like about half of them are about ED now. Of course, that's OK and the FCC doesn't have a problem.

Don't say the word "tit" on air though. They'll probably end up fining you a half a million dollars.

On edit: I must add my condolences. To be invaded by Rupert Murdoch. You were the last remaining English speaking nation to not have his news stations. Unless I'm mistaken.

After all, Europe and Australia have to deal with Sky news and broadcasting.

8. How sad... Hey, I got a question...
I have relatives in Montreal, and I hear that your paper the Daily Mail is completely US right wing propaganda. True? Also I hear that you guys get Al Jazeera? Everyone thinks Al Jazeera is some evil station when they dont realize they're funded by the US. All their reporters lived in the US, went to school here. The only thing the US didn't plan on some of their employees actually letting a few stories get out about our genocide out there. They dared show the effects of our DU and Napalm. So they payed the price. 2 studios bombed to the ground.

10. The National Post is pretty right wing.
Edited on Sun Jan-02-05 08:48 AM by Brundle_Fly
but it isnt all that popular a paper, at least if you want politics.

The Globe and Mail, Canada's real newspaper is very unbiased, if not skewed left just a touch, but that is the countries stance anyways.

AlJazeera is independant of the US, I think some are old BBC correspondants, but they are not funded by anyone other than the UAE as far as I know. edit: Qatar too.

The Aljazeera channel is on hold until the powers that be can figure out how to place it.

11. bushCartel praised al Jazeera...until they needed to discredit al Jazeera
"Before Sept. 11, it was generally praised by Western governments and others as a breath of fresh air in the tightly controlled Arab media world."

Powell, Rice, Rumsfeld & Tony the bLiar have all appeared on Al Jazeera talk shows.

9. I'm a born Canadian, lived for years in Europe, moved 5 years ago to Texas
And got the shock of my life when I saw all the drug ads!

NEVER have I seen so many drug ads; not in all my years in Canada or Europe.

And the thing is, YOU CAN'T BUY THOSE MEDS without a prescrip. So WHY are they advertising things you CAN'T BUY? Airtime paid for in the billions by big corporations. They're not advertising for YOUR benefit; they're BUYING THE MEDIA.

13. Seems like it.
All we have here are Beer, Canadian Tire and Aspirin Commercials.

fyi...
I watched a Sangey Gupta bit on Americans walking in to their docs, demanding what they need from self diagnosing, and the drugs they want are the ones they see on Teevee, and the generics are unacceptable, they only want the name brands.

and the doctors give them the presciptions!!!

Seems like the Docs, Media, Government all have a little hand in the pocket of the drug co's.

12. Do the drug ads reflect on Faux or on your community?
I'm not sure who buys/controls the ads that you see there, or if they are the same ones we see here.

At any rate, we certainly see a lot of drug ads on all networks here.

Alright, I forgot for a moment. Thanks for reminding me. Fuxs news has powerful friends. Just keep an eye on the ratings. That should be a pretty good barometer of their growing influence. I say sit back and enjoy some legal pot while changing the channel! How is the housing market up there. I live pretty close to the border right now.

18. I was in Victoria a few days ago.
Beautiful city, BTW. Always love visiting there. Didn't have much time to watch TV after spending several hours enjoying the spectacular Butchart Gardens decked out in holiday array, but before I hopped the ferry across the straits the next morning I got a copy of The National Post. Not a BC local paper I gather, but it had excellent and extensive coverage of the tsunami disaster. Gave me much more insight and information than I had seen in US papers--but of course, it had just happened on Boxing Day. One article featured a Canadian scientist who said it had been his lifelong mission to get a tsunami warning system installed in the Southeast Asian nations that were stricken, but to no avail.

Well, all that aside, sorry you now have Fox News up your way. I never watch it, just can't stomach it, but you hit the nail on the head: There is indeed something seriously wrong with my country. Kinda hard to leave Victoria last Tuesday!

their Dr to prescribe it for them. Damn drug companies filled the vacuum left when cigarette & most alcohol commercials were canned.

33. It's beyond that. When the drug cartels buy up huge $$$$$ of air time
then they CONTROL the media; the drug cartels can tell the media what to say & not say, coz the media can't afford to piss off and lose the $ billions paid by the cartels.

It's why there are so many ads in the US media for things you CAN'T just go and BUY. Like prescription drugs.
