4. I began to intensely dislike Nagourney some

time ago, when he was frothing at the mouth in support of Giuliani at a time when Giuliani had NYC at the height of racial discord with his insensitivity. I'll never forget that he tried to calm the waters by saying that "we will never look at Giuliani the same way" after it was disclosed that RG supposedly had prostrate cancer.

Now, i will not read anything by him, nor will I watch him on tv. When I hear that he is a guest on a local news program, I simply use my option of clicking the remote.

I hope that you emailed the editorial staff at the NYT and let them know that you did cancel your subscription with your reason(s).

But I don't see anything in there worth canceling a subscription over.

The theme of the article is that Democrats have not come to a consensus on why Kerry lost. That's true. Some say it was fraud. Some say the GOP did a better job getting its base out. Some say it was values. Some say Kerry was a bad candidate. Some say it was the media and talk radio. And some say it was a combination of several or all of those things.

12. I thought it was a good article. The problem I have is why isn't anyone

asking what Republicans stand for these days? Are they the party of ongoing endless non-winnable wars? The party of high oil profits, big company profits, the party against labor rights? Are they the party that only wants to write discrimination into the Constitution and take away American rights with the Patriot Act? Are they the party of division and hate? Are they the party of fear mongering and war profiteering? Are they the party where violence is revered while acts of humanity and compassion are bad? Are they the party of bummer stickers with short slogans and non-thinking solutions, hit first, worry about the consequences later? Are they the party of passing along debt to their children to pay off? Are they the party of polluting the air for their children to inherit? Exactly what is a Republican? What do they stand for? Anything that is anti-kind and loving?
The problem isn't that Kerry lost, it's that the whole globe lost in what is perceived as a Bush win. I'm still waiting to see how Bush fixes his mistakes in the next four years, I really don't care about Kerry right now and why he isn't President, he isn't, so what is Bush going to do other than stay the course and dig the hole deeper? As long as Americans will stand for an inept President, that's how long he'll last in office.

There won't be many Republican angst analysis pieces until they face some really serious setbacks, like losing one house in Congress in 2006.

You guys know I’ve been in the dumps lately (just wrote my first piece in weeks- it was exhausting, had to crib it from the LA Times and ten minutes I heard Rush when I was driving to the soviet safeway).


I’ve had the blues, don’t know if it’s because I feel guilty about trying to protect my career over doing “good journalism” this past election or if it’s because of my sad. You guys know I’ve got seasonal affective disorder, right? Well, I found out that my stupid cleaning lady switched out the bulbs in my lightbox! I’ve been staring at flourescents for three weeks! WTF! No wonder nobody wants to pay social security taxes for these people! Besides who can live on nine grand a year?


Anywho, someonbe just sent me this!
I just want to say it is so cool of Danny to stick up for me and mention my name. (OT I have been named in 22 stories about the media in 2004, I’m piecing together an online scrapbook of al the times my name got into the papers- in 2003 it was only twice and those were just legal notices) He totally understands that people don’t go into journalism to be picked on and scrutinized. They go into to journalism to pick on and scrutinize. If you don’t like what I write tough nuts. The public is not my boss and it’s not Danny’s either. Hello!?! Yes, I thought Mr. Bush's performance on 9/11 was a major reason for his re-election. Actually, I don't remember much of his performance in the days ater the attack, but I do remember his steely performance in the classroom and his take charge leadership the rest of that day.
