HELP! My cousin is becoming a Nazi!

Seriously!

She is 29 and has always been fascinated by Hitler, the Third Reich and WW2 from a historical standpoint.

She detests Bush and Republicans but she said the election failed her. She really had hope that the people would makke the right decision.

Now here is where it gets weird. She has never declared herself with a certain political ideology though she did vote Kerry.

Over the past few weeks she would make comments like "well I'm a National Socialist" but I thought she was joking. Then she started talking about hate sites and doing her graduate thesis on the network securities involved with maintaining such a site. She named the "Black Panthers" specifically.

She has also been talking a lot about the "jews" lately and asking if I thought they controlled everything. I told her I thought that was a bit insane.

Well this all culminated Saturday night when she said she was going to a meeting next Saturday. She acted all weird about it, like I had found a dirty movie in her VCR or something.

She pretty much came clean and said she has been hanging around with this 50+ yr old former felon who is anti-gov't. They have been discussing 'white pride" and she really wants to investigate it further to see if it is for her.

I'm terrified!

She mentioned that she posts on Stormfront.org, so I did a search of her postings and my mouth was on the floor. She was very involved with a book discussion of a David Duke book, etc. Now that she is going to meetings, to me that crosses a line of spectator to participant.

I can post some of this stuff or email it if any requests, otherwise it is pretty sick shit.

What can I do???

My guess is that this 50-year-old ex-felon has sort of Svengali'd her -- he's what's influencing her. You might ask her why she accepts this crazy stuff, get her to try to justify her positions, but you're probably not going to change her mind. Maybe you should just cut her off; say you don't want to associate with anybody who holds such despicable beliefs, but that she will be welcome again when she dumps the creepy "boyfriend" and pulls her head out of her ass.

Let her know you will share her "secret" with the rest of the family, and that she should not be surprised in the family disowns her for embracing a racist organization.

Print her posts to stormfront.org, and send copies to her mother and father, and her grandparents if they are still around.

Make sure she always has a safe place with you for when she decides she's done. Don't let her new friends become her only friends, no matter how hard it becomes.

Just tell him very clearly that if he brainwashes your cousin anymore, he's going to have hell to pay. Make sure you're stronger than him though. I think brainwashing is what's going on here. Meanwhile, explain to your cousin what's wrong with her. Tell her/your relatives about it if possible. Most of all, let her know that you still love her no matter what and that you always will. Dumping her, no matter what other posters may say, will not help. That's all I can recommend, but that's what I would do in your situation. I also have experience with things like this, me and my dad had to force my aunt to take drug therapy one time and me and him also rescued my uncle when he was having suicidal thoughts.

I don't know if my advice is going to be all that good or not. I think that perhaps you should gather up the friends and family that care about her to come and talk to her about this stuff. Try to let her know that you don't hate her. Try to argue against certain irrational ideas that she might be having. Each seed planted against this counts.

Other than that, I really don't know what to tell you except for pray. If God is actually real, then now's the time to ask for something.

What's so odd is that Bush has more contempt for diversity than any president I've ever seen. I guess the issue is his strong support of Israel. Many people hate Bush because his support has been stronger for Israel than any other president. That also makes Israel looks bad in the eyes of somebody who both is anti-semite and hates the war. I'm not arguing the pro-Palestinian or pro-Israel argument here (so please don't anybody try to argue with me about it). I'm trying to explain why she might be thinking what she's thinking. There are people who hate Bush specifically for his strong support of Israel. Some of them believe that the Jews and/or Israel controls Bush's foreign policy and America in general. Plus, Bush is looking really pro-immigrant right now; and that really angers the racists. These people working with Bush probably makes racist "fear for the future" supposedly being taken over by non-whites. Plus, Bush probably also looks non-racist for having Powell, Rice, and Rodriguez working with him.

You might want to try to talk to her off and on about how immigrants are not ruining the country, how Jews aren't controlling it, and how blacks and other races are not a threat to her. Of course, talking more to her about anything personal helps.

If nothing works, then all you can do is standback and help yourself deal with these problems.

If she is acting like "you found a dirty tape in her VCR" then it seems to me she is aware that what she is doing isn't quite right.

Get her to talk about her views and then hit her with facts. This is what I do when I talk to people with different views. Just keep talking to her, a little at time. I believe what you say can matter, even if it doesn't seem like it at the time, later on she may reflect on it.

In my uneducated opinion she is probably missing something in her life to go for something so extreme... something that makes her feel part of a group... like when someone joins a cult.
