GOP Backing Away From Making DeLay Above The Law

The GOP leaders in the House reported today that they are backing away from a rules change that would effectively made DeLay or any GOP House member bullet proof in regard to ethics complaints. They are going to try and spin this as though it was DeLay's idea to back down. I do believe that Sugarland, TX must be home of the dumbest human beings on this planet. I am almost convinced that I could send my dog to certain parts of Texas with a gun and a bible and they would elect him to Congress! Here is the story link;

7. Meanwhile, in the Texas legislature, the fix is in....

The state legislature is crafting two bills to keep DeLay out of prison. First, they are restricting jurisdiction for election crimes, so that only the state AG may prosecute them. Second, they are legalizing corporate donations to political campaigns. That eliminates the law by which DeLay's associates were indicted, and which puts him at risk.

I think the GOP national leadership figured out that they couldn't do anything at the federal level to save DeLay. Keeping him in power while under indictment is just a stall, until the day he was convicted, and would make the national GOP look bad. But eliminating the problem in Texas... well, that fixes things. :grr:

10. I just read this article on A/P...

and wondered just what Delay's/GOP's strategy might be? I don't really get it, but must say I'm glad that they didn't make any sweeping changes. I live in Houston, and Sugarland is just outside of Houston. There are a lot of people here who have brains and do not agree with what is going on currently. Unfortunately, we are in the minority, but we do have a voice and are trying to be heard. A gentleman named Richard Morrison(D) ran against DeLay in this past election and received a surprisingly large portion of the vote from the Sugarland area. His campaign did make DeLay nervous, enough to come back to Texas and participate in a debate that they thought he would skip altogether. Obviously, his support was not large enough to overtake DeLay, but still, for him to receive as many votes as he did, and receive the positive coverage he received in this area, that is worth mentioning. People are trying, and we do have a long way to go, yet we are not all 'dumbest human beings on this planet'. I do wonder about a lot of the people in this state, but I met a lot of like-minded individuals through my participation in the 2004 election and that gave me hope.
