Dear Senator ____________, As I am sure you are aware Rep. Conyers and other members of the House plan to challenge Ohio's electoral votes on Jan. 6, 2004. Unfortunately, at this time no Senator has agreed to stand with the challenge. It is my understanding the reason for this inaction is the current lack of evidence sufficient to overturn the outcome of the election. If the election goes unchallenged, there will never be a meaningful investigation into the irregularities that have called this election into question for so many people. If those irregularities were in fact a result of election tampering, that fact will never be established. It is not an effort to overturn the election that motivates us to challenge Ohio's votes, it is the confidence that we have a free and fair election. The purpose of the challenge is to initiate a thorough investigation. We must demonstrate to the American public and the world that our nation is truly a democracy. We must ensure that the rights of the people are always defended even when doing so may be inconvenient or unpopular. We will not allow anyone to manipulate our system for their own gain. Please stand with the challenge not because we seek to overturn the outcome, but because we need to KNOW that the outcome was the peoples choice.
