A reason fro our Senators to stand with the challenge.

Dear Senator ____________,
As I am sure you are aware Rep. Conyers and other members of the House plan to challenge Ohio's electoral votes on Jan. 6, 2004.
Unfortunately, at this time no Senator has agreed to stand with the challenge. It is my understanding the reason for this inaction is the current lack of evidence sufficient to overturn the outcome of the election.
If the election goes unchallenged, there will never be a meaningful investigation into the irregularities that have called this election into question for so many people. If those irregularities were in fact a result of election tampering, that fact will never be established. It is not an effort to overturn the election that motivates us to challenge Ohio's votes, it is the confidence that we have a free and fair election.
The purpose of the challenge is to initiate a thorough investigation. We must demonstrate to the American public and the world that our nation is truly a democracy. We must ensure that the rights of the people are always defended even when doing so may be inconvenient or unpopular. We will not allow anyone to manipulate our system for their own gain. Please stand with the challenge not because we seek to overturn the outcome, but because we need to KNOW that the outcome was the peoples choice.

1. One problem

A senator signing an objection will NOT start an investigation.

All it will do is force both the House and the Senate to vote separately on whether or not the electoral votes in question should be allowed. And we don't win that vote.

2. Regardless of whether we win or lose any vote-

what's important are Democrats standing up and making nationwide electoral fraud an issue. We know the Republicans have the votes to sweep it under the table. There were voting problems in 2000, 2002, and now 2004. In all cases the registered majority got screwed. And this time, many Republicans saw their vote discounted as well.

The Republicans can stuff any issue that they care to in Congress. But the important point for us is to see Democrats stand up and acknowledge that we have been screwed yet again and that it will not be business as usual in this Congress. And the Republicans better realize that if they vote against Democracy, there may well be ramifications within their base. There's still a significant segment of people who believe in the 2 Party system that still identify themselves as Republicans. This issue and the Congressional Republican response could ultimately come back and haunt them if they don't address this in good faith.

3. That's not the point.

The letter says an investigation is required, and it is, but the action he is requesting will not lead to an investigation. If you want to send it to a Senator, you should at least have the details down.

5. Well, that's my point.

There's hopefully going to be a challenge which will require discussion and debate and a recorded vote in a very hi-profile way. This should be the catalyst for reform in our electoral process. I want them to pay a political price for giving democracy the finger..... again.

And what other way does this get brought up in the House or Senate when the Republicans control the sub-committees that can stuff our concerns without ever laying it out for a vote?

4. that is my point exactly

If the election goes unchallenged, the majority of Americans will never know there were questions. Yes we will lose the vote in both houses I know, but by challenging we open the door to investigation. We give the possibility of election fraud some traction. Otherwise the whole idea of election fraud is marginalized, and there is no incentive for the would be tamperers to play straight in the future.
When dipsh*t is exposed (eventually) of one or more of his crimes, then this election tampering won't seem so far fetched. If he would do X then he may have Y as well. We need to go on record. We need to say if you mess with us we will not let it slide. There will be questions.
