My Choices For The 08 Ticket, John Edwards & Harold Ford.

What's not to like about both of these guys? I know they aren't favorites that I hear much talk about, but I think they both handle themselves, and the issues very well.

5. What will Edwards do the next four years

to get some experience to help qualify him for the presidency?

6. he is going to continue doing public service type work

maybe teach, travel around the country meeting with people to discuss things, etc.

but they said whatever he does will be in the public service type area.and he will not go into private law or business.

for now he is mostly focused on helping his wife get through the breast cancer treatment.

That will be enough to qualify him for the Presidency.

7. it would be a great ticket but Harold Ford plans to run for Senate in 2006

and it will be difficult though not impossible. they might make him promise to serve out his full senate term before he runs for president or vice president. of course he could do something to become hugely popular that the people wont mind if he did break that promise.

The Senate is the kiss of death for higher office. Still, I'd love to see Ford replace Frist.

20. Ford is so much a part of the political life of TN that I don't imagine...

...they'll punish him if he were on the ticket in '08.

TN also is in the habit of seeing one of their former Senators on the ticket.

I'm not saying that I like Ford for VP. But I do think he could run after 2 years in the senate and not be hurt at all by (or hurt the ticket because of) having only 2 years in the senate.

I also think he'd probably add a lot to a ticket in terms of getting votes from interesting places and bringing buzz. I can't say that I love his politics, though I totally appreciate his predicament (and I'd rather have a moderate Dem in the senate if he or she is the only alternative to any kind of Republican).

One thing I think that will be a problem for Ford is that I think the Democrats are going to be very conscious about the message their '08 ticket says about "family" and Ford has really sacrificed his family life for politics.

21. are you talking about him being single and without kids ?

if so, yeah, it would make sense since he went into public office in his 20's. he will be 38 by 2008. i don't even think he is in any commited relationship so i assume he will remain single or at least not married by then.

and i'm sure a lot of talk would focus on how he is single , attractive and young(for a vp choice) and how that would affect his job. with the media we have, they love getting into the personal stuff and they wont be able to stop talking about it and it would just become the focus of the campaign. questions for him will be about how he will go about with his dating and other crap that shouldn't even be brought up rather than on issues.

but he is young enough that i can also see him wanting to stay in the senate for a while so he can also focus on his personal life. and if/when he settles down with someone that's when he would seriously consider higher office.

i guess it all depends on how much he wants to get married and how much of a goal it is for him in his life. he might not even think it's really a big thing and would be satisfied if he never got married. but he is also smart enough to know if he seriously does want to run for national office some day, being married would be an asset and not being married might even hurt him.

do you know when he got married and when it ended. even more interesting since he has mostly been in a safe seat so far so it might seem like it would be easier for him since he doesn't have to worry about tough elections every few years. so i guess he does spend a lot of time in his job.

i agree about the sexy v perception of family part. especially since single people who are most likely to care whether he is sexy already vote democratic in huge numbers. and it's the "family values" crowd that we have trouble with.

Maybe I read that he said he hasn't gotten married because of his job. I distinctly remember reading about him geting a divorce, but I might have been wrong. Maybe I read a quote from an ex-girlfriend.

A 100% solution for putting the democrats back into the whitehouse. But, I'm sure the MSM will give him all the coverage he needs should he decide to run.

Let's think about replacements for our Republicanite Senators and Congresscritters. That's the important issue now, and in some ways, more important than who is president. A bunch of feisty new Dems in the Capitol could do a lot to block Bush's worst excesses.

he's too conservative. There are southern progressives if you're looking for a southerner. I want someone with conviction and I've never seen that quality displayed in Ford.

If there's one thing I've learned from the BushCo, the president is as good as the team he chooses to run the country. With that in mind, Team Bush is a miserable failure!
