Poll question: ABB hypothetical

Suppose that GWB faced a credible primary opponent, and there was a realistic chance that his opponent could claim the Republican nomination.

Would you be willing to register and vote in the Republican primary, for the chance to unseat GWB before the general election?

Purely hypothetical, of course, since there is no such candidate, but I'm curious about how deep the ABB feeling goes.

It goes without saying that you would abandon the (R) nominee in the general election.

5. If there was a candidate that had the chance to beat Bush

then it follows they would stand a very good chance of beating the Democrat as well. No thanks, I'll stick with the devil I know. And I will NEVER, EVER, EVER even CONSIDER voting Republican until people like Tom Delay are marginalized or kicked out of the party. That someone like that is in a position of LEADERSHIP negates the most reasonable, moderate Republicans out there.

For instance, someone such as McCain would be nearly unbeatable in a general election. IMHO, he would have beaten Gore in 2000 if nominated.

I probably would, depending on the candidate. Heck, if McCain ran, I'd really consider it. Being a reluctant supporter of the Iraq war, and basically liberal on all the economic, civil rights, civil liberties issues puts me in kind of an odd position. If a credible moderate challenger opposed Dubya, and won--who knows. It's not going to happen though, so I'll stick with the Dems.

8. Maybe, I heard wrong but...

even if McCain ran I would never vote for the guy for his stance on the Israeli occupation. I read an article he wrote about how our support for Israel should be stronger then it is even now. Because they're our only allies in the middle-east.

My other is that I want to select the dem nominee, not the repuke. It is interesting though that such a large percentage (at this point) find it less compelling to advance democratic ideals.

A Republican president! You gotta be kidding. To a man, in Election 2000, the Repukes said that counting votes was not among their pricipals. This more or less makes them a non-viable party in a democracy IMO.

14. I have never voted "R" but I would have voted for Sen. Lowell Weicker

when he ran for reelection in 1988 against Joe Lieberman. Weicker was the real liberal in that race, a fact subsequently proven when Weicker bolted the GOP to become an independent.

I think being an American is being straight arrow when it comes to voting. Don't let them make another mountain out of a molehill, acknowledging that what we're voting on is more of a molehill than some of the diabolical tricks Republicans have played.

I'm in favor of not emulating them in any form. Stay clean - make up for some Democrats in the past who haven't played it clean.

It angered me when Repubs did it to Cynthia McKinney because it's not fair, and I wouldn't like to see other Dems do it either.

Imagine a polished operative running the GOP right now. We'd be a dictatorship. I'd much rather have the guy who can't speak in complete sentences.
