Is Amazon a red company?

17. There's a lot of info at Motley Fool about this, and a recent USA Today

feature on Jeff Bezos bears it out. They already have the customer base to do it, and the postal infrastructure. Bezos thinks they can undercut Netflix's prices pretty easily.

I wrote a paper on this recently. It's for real. I'll edit to link it in a bit.

Edit: Actually, it looks like they've opted to bump Netflix from opening in the UK first. Hadn't heard this yet.

http://www.choosetheblue.com/main.php has a spot where you can type in a company, on the left. That's where I got 58% from for amazon.

Or you can go to http://www.opensecrets.org/indivs/index.asp and type in amazon for the occupation, select an election cycle, and find the specific donations.

11. How bout supporting a local store instead of a corporation?

Just a thought. Instead of ordering your book or CD online at Amazon or Barnes and Noble go to a real store.

Instead of going to a Barnes and Noble or a Tower records, go to a locally owned indpendent store.

Sure you might pay 21 bucks for that DVD that might cost 18 at Best Buy, or 15 at Amazon including shipping, but at least you're supporting your community.

21. Heh, then order online from a smaller company...

..it's a little harder than ordering from Amazon but you can still do it. Lots of smaller bookstores can be called up and they'll ship you want you want. A few years ago I had to search for an out of print childrens book that my wife loved. Amazon was no use. I did a book search through a used book store, and they found a copy...I forget where, but they shipped it to me.

Anyway...thats hard, and you can't do that for everything. If you live in the middle of nowhere with no stores, or with just a little local bookstore like that...sure order online. It beats shopping at Wal Mart.

For the majority of people though shopping local is good advice. Where I live you pass by at least 5 places locally owned you can buy a DVD to get to the Best Buy. Why not just go to one of those stores?

24. Good point! Our town and county businesses are starting to get the

hint that they need to change their act if they want more business. I think they are losing close to 90 million because people are going out of our county to shop.

Repugs. They are waaaay liberal, especially in their Seattle offices where Amazon was founded.

26. Barnes and Noble is VERY blue -- I ordered from them at Christmas

time, instead of Amazon, after I found this out at buyblue.org.
