We put it on the record that not every vote was counted. We watched the repugs squirm, and listened to them have nothing really good to say in their own defense. Maybe Sen. Boxer just formally annouced this morning that she was standing up, but did the repugs really think that no one would? Is that why they were so unprepared? They have people reading "all those conspiracies on the internets", so why didn't they think that it was at least a possibility? They did not care. They thought it would be weak. They know that * is in no matter what, so why does it matter what we say? I think they now know that it matters. I hope they learned that we're ready for a fight, and we're not backing down.

Today was a huge step for the democratic process. :bounce:

Kudos to Will Pitt for blogging his heart out, well past the point of exhaustion. Kudos to everyone who protested, wrote letters, sent e-mails, and made phone calls.

We are a powerful force, and they will now have to deal with us.

I don't think any one "won," but it wasn't "business as usual" either. I think it was historic and necessary and I think that anyone who expected more set themselves up to be really disappointed.

Personally, I'm okay with the vote to certify -- I think that the way the system is set up and the way the laws are, bush did win Ohio. I think that there are serious problems with the way people vote and the way the votes are counted, I'm very glad the electoral votes were challenged because I want that on record, and I really, really hope that some of the Reps/Senators who made speeched today follow through on improving the system.

Unless Republicans vote to strike all talk of fraud stricken from the record, as they did when Rep. Corrine Brown called the 2000 election a "coup d'etat."

situation was reversed, you can be sure every single Repuke would have voted to throw out the Ohio vote. Our loss was caused by the Dems lack of courage and unity.
Don't hold your breath waitng for meaningful voting legislation to hit the floor of the Senate...or the House. It will never get out of Committee, if it even gets that far.

21. It's a first step . . .

the only thing any of the Republicans said today that has any merit is that Bush's "mandate" is diminished. I do agree with this. However, I never believed the mandate.

If you listened to what was being said, the Dems argued facts, the Repubs responded with talking points that did not address what the Dems said.

The majority of Dem votes in both houses could be seen as lack of backbone or a smart strategy. The Dems can't be accused of not supporting Bush by thier votes. But, they had a great platform to air the issues that have bothered many people.

Anyone who is upset about the things that happened in Ohio is bound to be more upset listening to Rethugs talk about how "there is no problem." The Rethugs had to go on the record stating all is fine, when the Ohio Secretary of State has refused to address the 15 pages of questions submitted by the Dems on the Judiciary Committee. Today's speeches showed by the Rethugs cannot be trusted. It's good they're now on the record.

For all those reasons I congratulate Rep Tubbs-Jones and Senator Boxer for signing the complaint.

22. i would have liked it if we could really and truly have stopped bush's

steal and subsequent coronation. i also would have liked it if more democratic senators would have joined barbara boxer on the challenge to the ohio electoral vote. we did make a statement and smeared bush's coronation but the republicans will find a way to bury all of that and smear us back waist deep.

23. I'm glad they stood up and acknowledged Ohio

after a couple months avoiding the issue and I'm glad it highlighted how twisted the repulbican party is regarding the right to vote. I never expected it to change the outcome at all but I did hope more dem politicians not only spoke like dems but voted like dems. That didn't happen as much I wanted, but this is just the beginning.
