Clergy extend Target boycott

Buoyed by news that Target Corp. failed to meet holiday sales projections, the National Clergy Council is urging church members to continue to boycott the retail chain because it barred Salvation Army bell ringers during the Christmas season.

As WorldNetDaily reported in December, 5,000 Catholic, Evangelical, Orthodox and Protestant clergy members and 30,000 lay delegates in all 50 states called on congregations, organizations, family, friends and associates to suspend holiday shopping at Target stores.

The council's president, Rev. Rob Schenck, said he is encouraged by news that Target cut fourth-quarter earnings projections.

"This is not about being vindictive," he said in a statement. "It's about teaching proper moral and civic responsibility to corporations that make bad public policy decisions. This isn't personal, unless, of course, you're talking about the personal injury Target is doing to the poor who are helped by one of America’s oldest, most reputable and most effective charities."

1. Target is the most giving corporation

Those people really should shut up. I will gladly shop at Target, now that I dont have to be bothered by some guy with a bell. In fact one of the first Targets is near my house. I should go there now.

Hasn't he heard? They ALL have cut their projections. The Christmas shopping season had to be extended to make it look better than it is.

3. I support Target wholeheartedly!

I shop there as often as I can. I just bought my partner a cross cut paper shredder there for Xmas. I probably could have gotten it somewhere else, but it sure felt nice not to hear that damned bell ringing in my ear on the way in and out. :-)

10. Target shopping

I have a daughter who goes to Target every night- no exaggeration--we think that 'Targhay' is her French boyfriend--the one she is trying to hide from us ! ;>) Maybe I should encourage her to go twice a day-but then I'll have to become the momATM and I don't want that!

11. I was at Target and their stuff seems to get better and better.

They have excellent housewares items. I love that store.

Subject: Question about the Target boycott

I was interested in joining in the boycotting of Target. I was wondering, is there a reason we aren't including Best Buy and Home Depot? I've read that they banned Salvation Army bell ringers also, how come they are getting off without criticism?

Target: 26% to dems, 73% to republicans
Home Depot: 6% to dems, 95% to republicans
Best Buy: choosetheblue.com doesn't have the breakout, but open secrets shows they are heavily republican

My strategy is to encourage Target to hold their ground on this issue, meanwhile encourage others to boycott all three of these companies. If they are red, and we have an excuse, why not stir the pot a bit?

5. Personally, I have

a big problem with the Salvation Army, since they discriminated against gays in a big way.

There are plenty of charities you can give to besides the SA.

And Target, while not the best of corporations, is considerably better than Wal-Mart. I don't understand how anyone who thinks about it can possibly shop in one. I haven't been inside one in years myself.

8. Oh, I have problems with SA as well

For exactly the same reasons as you. And I don't shop at Walmart either.

But if the religious right is thinking of attacking their own, I see no reason not to help where we can. I'm sure they'd do the same for us.

No donations to SA.
No shopping at Target.
Encourage Target to prohibit SA at their stores.
Encourage the religious right not to shop at Target.
Encourage other red stores to prohibit SA.
Encourage the religious not to shop at other red stores that prohibit SA.

See how it works? We should all jump on board and encourage the National Clergy Council to add these companies to their boycott. AND we should all write these stores and let them know we appreciate not being bothered by solicitors in front of their shops.

6. Nordstrom's, Neimann-Marcus and other high-end retailers barred Salvation

Army ringers, too. Funny, because THEIR sales were WAY up because the wealthy did so well under Bush's economic plans. Yet, those WITH money to burn didn't have to burden themselves with scraping up some change or some dollar bills for the kettle because THOSE retailers didn't want to make their well-off customers uncomfortable by solicitations.

Nope. They have big charity balls for that. Must buy that new 10,000.00 dress for that 100.00 (donation) ticket for the annual ball.

who are less fortunate.
