One of the bloggers misquoted Dean today.
I taped the discussion on C-Span and listened again to be sure. He just said what he has always said...that if he were to get chair he would not run in 2008.

He made it clear that he would not try for congress in 2006 either, and would support Jeffords.

He then further clarified as he often has that no Democrat will win in 2008 unless the party is changed.

I believe a blogger quoted him as flat out saying he would not run. That is not what he said, and I never heard him say it. He will not run if he gets the chair position.

1. I saw/heard it twice, and I'll see it again.
If there's no change in the DNC, then no Dem will win the presidency. That's what he said.

And if he isn't chosen for the DNC chair, we can be pretty certain that no change will occur. The other candidates, regardless of the promises they made, were part of the status quo.

2. Right, and he did not rule out a run. Not really.
The blogger misquoted him.

3. I rewatched and wrote down the text.
He was misquoted by omission. I don't like that and I think we all need to be very careful about things like that. From the DNC debate on C-Span last night.

Dean said:
"If I get this job, I'm not running for president in 2008, and I'm supporting Jim Jeffords....in 2006. I am not using this as a stepping stone."

Then he said people often ask him why he says that, he says that if the party is not changed then no democrat will win in 2008.

That context leaves an entirely different impression. Perhaps the blogger was using another source, but he referred to Atlanta. The blogger simply said Dean said he would not run in 2008.
