I had an appt w/ my dental hygienist this a.m. for a cleaning. I am a hardcore Dean supporter and I was feeling pretty demoralized and bordering on depressed. As she tied the paper towel around my neck and prep'd me for my q6mo vigorous cleaning, she remarked on the Dean button on my coat hanging on the hook and said she grew up in Vermont. She said "my sister thinks he walks on water" and that she (my hygienist) was a Dean supporter too. She then went on to say that her brother, a carpenter and a Vermont resident, was particularly grateful to him because he had been hurt during a time between jobs/health care and that Dean's Vermont health care package had allowed him to apply for temporary insurance and receive necessary orthopedic surgery when he was so seriously injured. She went on to say that her husband was in health care administration and that when he had been working in a Vt. hospital, he had received a call from a staffer of then Gov. Dean to ask if "the Governor could drop in to discuss health care with one of their administrators". She said "Can you see Pataki doing something like that??" I was considerably cheered but wondered... Why doesn't the Dean campaign spread THIS kind of story as well? I am as angry as Howard Dean at the current state of this country but maybe America needs more of the human side?
