I grew up in the Netherlands as a conservative monarchist. I really haven't changed much.

Imagine changing trains. I step out of the coach with the "Je Maintiendrai" coat of arms, walk straight across the platform into the Democratic Underground coach, where the party is in full swing.

I've only been here a week, but from what I've seen, half of DU members are slightly more liberal than the average dem, usually a fan of Clark or Dean, and very anti-Bush. The other half is so liberal and so anti-establishment that they're willing to believe these wacked-out conspiracy theories that 9/11 was orchestrated by Republicans, al-Qaeda doesn't really exist, etc.

24. DU'ers are composed of the intersection of the Democratic party

with that section of society that regularly uses the internet, and as such they share all the vices of that... unsavoury... group: they're more likely to hold extreme political views, and much less good at remaining civil while extolling those views, which makes them appear even more extreme.

It's a sad fact, but nice, normal people don't usually use the internet, at least not to the extent of posting on discussion boards.
