I wish we could make a poll of the best contenders for the nomination through the years, but there are just so many options. For '04 alone, you've got nine from which to choose.

3. Al Gore gets my vote

because he had such an intregal role in the Clinton administration and would have continued the peace and prosperty. He didn't run a very good campaign, but that doesn't always mean you'll be a bad president.

I get the feeling that - given a few more weeks - he could have won far more decisively than he did. I get a similar feeling about Kerry.

Thank you for making this very astute point! I mention this all the time in Presidential campaign conversations.

On the other side of the coin, there's George W. Bush: brilliant campaigner (I think we should go ahead and give both him and Karl Rove credit on this one), he just can't GOVERN worth a damn.

Electability is always important; how you'll do in the office once elected should matter more. Unfortunately, that's not the case in this country... :eyes:
