The Blog Plan
As DNC Chair, I'd like to take the DNC and make it a full part of the blogosphere. The principle behind what I offer here is to foment a continual and robust online discussion that the DNC actually is part of and that reinforces an overall Democratic political strategy. To that end, I submit that the DNC needs:

1. Regular conference calls, conferences, and a blog committee of 'netroots' representatives to advise various DNC departments on strategy, research, messaging and outreach.

2. A consistent non-election year blogad budget dedicated to framing and testing messaging, as well as potential seed money for specialty blogs.

3. An internal champion in the DNC to break news on blogs and connect elected Democrats and high level staffers with blogs, bloggers, and effective use of the internet with the goal of having the blogosphere surpass cable news networks in reach and influence.

6. Simon seems to have some good ideas

but I can not support anyone who continues to support Bush's war on terror and/or the the invasion and brutalization of Iraq.

If and when Simon changes his mind regarding these issues, then I might be willing to reconsider him.

In the meantime, I'm ready for some new blood and a new direction and so far Dean is the best option for both those goals.

I'm sure Howard Dean, the candidate who really has used the blog community like no other, has similar ideas and frankly, I prefer Dean as DNC Chair.

and Rosenberg is just picking up on and trying to repackage a great, already proven idea. Of course, Dean didn't do it for the DNC, but he did it for a Presidential campaign and went a step further, which ole Simon doesn't mention a thing about (at least not in the quoted portion):

Dean and Trippi not only allowed but GAVE power back to the people out in the sticks, without requiring central control. He points out that that's scary, but it's very effective to empower people that way. "The more power you give away, the more power you really have," is how he puts it, usually with a little blush about being "Zen-like" in his philosophy.

Another of Dean's ideas involves getting money out to the parties -- funding a core staff in EACH of the 50 states from the DNC, to ensure that we have a good structure in each state.

And, of course, he wants us to "Show Up" -- run people in each state, each race, something I wholeheartedly agree with.

10. Thoroughly confused, but supportive

After reading the above posts, I'm thoroughly confused about who is or isn't working for what person or organization. However, as a normally befuddled DUer, the blogging idea sounds good. Regardless of who wins the DNC chairmanship, I hope they do something like this. Grassroots input can do nothing but make the Party stronger.

Drudge --> O'Reilly, Limbaugh ---> Fox News ----> cable networks ---> MSM

That's a model of what the Democratic Party needs in order to reframe the debate.

is 100% right. If it's not a 2-way communication, it won't work and will, in fact, serve to further alienate the base, and IMO the base is plenty alienated enough already. Don't NEED more disillusionment and disappointment. Nuh-huh.

The impression that I get is that he would be trying to bring the DNC into the blog world. That's a good thing, IMO.

I don't entirely agree that Dean already does this. Some of it, yes, but some of it's above and beyond what Dean does, IMO. In my experience, DFA pretty much stays on their own blog... this is above and beyond, IMO.... it's pretty tasty stuff.

Glad to hear he's at least thinking like Dean...even if he's 1 1/2 years behind the curve.
