Poll question: What would you think of Max Cleland as Vice President

Although Max Cleland is supporting Kerry I believe he would be a fine Vice President for any of the candidates for several reasons.

He is experienced in government, he's a combat veteran and it helps that as a Georgian he's a Southerner. What a repudiation of what the Republicans did to him in 2002 that would be! I believe it would also send the message "No matter what your disability or hardship you can overcome those obstacles". What do you think?

If either Clark or Edwards wins the nomination, we cannot have two Southerners on the ticket.

But, I don't think Max has the stamina and stomach for a national run. How about Clark/Edwards?

and because Perot was running, and because Bush glanced at his watch during a Presidential debate.

We won in 1996 because of Clinton's charisma and he was the incumbent, and because Newt overplayed his hand when he shut down the government.

Clinton did it by not signing the needed legislation to keep it open.

On Edit: Thats how I remember it. I could be wrong and Newt prevented the House from passing said legislation. But I don't remember it happening that way.

He allowed himself to be smeared and lost his re-election, after trying as hard as he could to support everything Bush wanted, and now he has silently left the 9/11 comission with a lot of unanswered questions. I don't care that he is a decorated veteran, I have very little confidence in him.

I just think we have stronger candidates for that spot, and I believe the ticket should be a combination of two campaigns who made it to the end.

As a Senator Kerry would do best to pick an outsider, a southerner, or a mid-westerner.

After losing in 2002, Cleland is not someone most would think of as an insider. Clark would be another great choice in the south, or Governor Kathleen Sebelius to provide a boost in Kansas or Missouri.

I'd prefer Someone younger (Edwards) who will be ready to take over in 2012. But I really think it would be good to have two war heroes running against to two cowards.

I think he would be incredible with either Gen. Clark or Kerry. Both the team would be war heros with the injuries and awards to boot. Up against them would be chickenhawks AWOL and draft dodger Cheney. :D

14. Cleland's a truly honorable man... And, there would be some delicious

aspects to it-- vindicating a smeared war veteran and honorable public servant at the hands of the Repubs. Plus, it would be a really nice precedent to have the first wheel-chair bound disable vet as VP. Having said that, I have to admit, I don't know enough of his views to make an educated assessment right now.

Here's how it'd go. Ads beginning with a nice, warm voiceover - "Max Cleland. Vietnam veteran. War hero. But, regretfully..." Then cut to fear-based crapola about letting a man with one limb be a heartbeat away from the presidency. It'd work, too.

I can just hear certain voters now: "Oh, that poor man, just look at him. I'm sure he is smart and qualified, but we just can't have HIM as VP. Oh, no no, it wouldn't do...".

Had the voters knwn about FDR, he would have lost, as well, although simply being paraplegic wouldn't lose it for him, now. But having only one limb would. We haven't 'grown up'enough yet for tht.
