Ex-Democratic Party Chair Endorses Frost

WASHINGTON

The man in charge of rebuilding the Democratic Party after Richard Nixon's 1972 landslide Republican victory is backing Texan Martin Frost for the party's chairmanship.

Bob Strauss called Frost, a former U.S. House member, "the winning strategist, innovative organizer and proven spokesperson" Democrats need to rebuild and win.

Strauss is a founder of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, one of the largest law firms in Washington.

Members of the Democratic National Committee vote Feb. 12 for a replacement for chairman Terry McAuliffe, who is not seeking another term.

It was sometime in the 1990s, I think, but I just can't remember the exact year.

most of the state legislatures and governships and are the majority party by far? We're in better shape than I thought! :thumbsup:

6. We lost more seats in the House of Representatives in '72

We lost 13 seats then but only three seats this time.

Two years after this guy took over we gained four Senate seats and 49 seats in the House.

he can't be given a huge amount of credit. Just because his chairmanship coincided with that sucess doesn't make him responsible for it.

He lost his Dallas-area congressional seat in November after redistricting engineered by Majority Leader Tom DeLay forced him into a race with Rep. Pete Sessions in a more Republican-friendly district. He served 26 years in Congress.

"Frost said the endorsement from Strauss 'means a lot.' Frost was the North Texas chairman for Carter's presidential campaign in 1976 when Strauss was DNC chairman."

At least the guy knows how to win elections in Texas.

9. Seen Texas lately?

I thought that too at first, but then somebody pointed out Texas has gone totally Republican and Frost just lost to one of those Republicans. I like him alot, but not so sure he really knows anything about taking on Republicans in the current environment. Just a thought, I really don't know who would be best for chair.

10. Carter did win Texas in '76

Frost only lost his seat after the GOP-controlled legislature gerrymandered the lines to make his district strongly Republican.
