Six weeks to the Ohio Primary, and I'm torn between Clark & Edwards

Initially I always liked Edwards but as time progressed I didn't see his campaign doing anything so I felt it was prudent to back a winner (Someone to beat Bush). So when Clark jumped in, I thought wow... former general, brilliant, and looks to be the man to take down Bush. So basically I stopped giving to Edwards and started giving to Clark (I'm not rich, but I can afford a little each month).

Well, I've got to say that Edwards performance in Iowa, combined with his populist message (Class and positive), presents a real dilemna for me. So I'm asking the Clark and Edwards people.... tell me who I should back. Perhaps I should wait a while, but I really want to make a final decision on this... HELP!

Now, KEEP IT POSITIVE PEOPLE! Negativity won't help AT ALL.

I wish the other candidates would stop pussyfooting around the NAFTA and WTO issues. They are bad deals and need to be repealed. PERIOD.

The one who does this will get massive amounts of support from independents and southern textile workers who are being massacred by unfair trade deals.

Yeah, yeah, they say future trade needs to be fair. They need to get really EXPLICIT about it.

CANCEL NAFTA!!!!
CANCEL WTO!!!!!!

They provide no tangible benefits for ordinary Americans. They only lower our standards of living while increasing profits for Wal-Mart.


BTW, I like the fact that Kerry is pimping himself as a trust-buster in the fashion of Teddy Roosevelt. Roosevelt broke with his party because they were too cozy with the robber barons. The same situation is occuring again today. Corporations have found ways around anti-trust legislation. Those laws need to be strengthened to stop these mega-mergers.

3. Clark Will Cut Pentagon Spending

Edwards had a woman ask him "will you cut Military spending"

Edwards said "No, I want to keep America Strong".

For me that is case closed... along with the fact that Edwards would be clueless regarding Foreign Policy and had the bad judgement to have Shelton advising him. That's the same General Shelton that just spoke against Paul O'Neill last week.

Saying you'll cut Pentagon spending doesn't help a lot, but I see your point. Keep in mind Edwards is from NC, where cutting defense is the kiss of death.

like Edwards, they want to take the money that goes to weapons systems and profits for contractors and give it to the soldiers.

4. Aw, hon

You know, I could tell you Clark, and then someone would tell you Edwards, and then it would be back and forth...

But the truth of the matter is, they're both GREAT men, and they both have their strengths and weaknesses. I'll be happy to back either one of them. But if you're looking to make the most of your vote, then I suggest you sit back, relax, and watch. Iowa turned around in a heartbeat... who saw THAT coming? Edwards will be strong in the south, and he reminds us of Clinton. The general will also be strong in the south, and he is the new kid with the great message.

Don't listen to Bob Dole, Howard Stern, et al. Keep up with the issues, keep up with their websites, and when the time comes, I think you'll know.

I wouldn't presume to tell you who to vote for. It's called democracy, baby. We all have one vote, and it's OUR vote, and it DOES count!

6. Take your time

I haven't experienced any hesitation about who I am backing, but before Clark, I went from Dean to Kerry, to Edwards, to Graham, so I know how confusing it can be. My advice is to keep your eye on issues and performance on the trail. These are two fine candidates. By the time you get to vote, all will be clear.

8. You have some time

Let the debates, NH, and the 2/3 primaries come and go. By then, momentum will be defined, as will electability, a key component. Some southern and western states will have spoken as well, so hopefully by then you will have an idea as to how the cards are falling.

I'm assuming here that your final decision can wait two weeks. I would advise it, lest you make a choice and find the dynamics of the race moving in an unanticipated direction.

If it can't, why Clark, of course! :)

- Which has a greater disregard for civil liberties?

Edwards voted for the Patriot Act but Clark lobbied on behalf of Acxiom to give government the ability to create survallience dossiers on US citizens. I guess this one is a toss up.

- Which one best appreciates the influence of corporate money on Washington?

Clark worked as a paid lobbyist while Edwards accepted money from lobbyists (although not "Washington" lobbyists as he'll carefully tell you.) This one too is a toss up.

- Which one supports pre-emptive war?

Edwards voted for the Iraq war and still adamently insists it was the right decision. Clark opposes the war - now. I guess this one is for you to decide.

That is my sole criterion. Right now, it looks like a tossup between Edwards and Clark on that, but my gut instinct tells me that Edwards would have a slight advantage along that line; he has the common touch (as did Clinton) down pat. Clark does too, but probably not to the same intensity.

I also think that Dean could beat bush.
