Poll: Americans Hopeful on 2nd Bush Term

WASHINGTON - A majority of Americans say they feel hopeful about President Bush (news - web sites)'s second term and have a generally positive view of him personally, but they also express continued doubts about Iraq (news - web sites).

Bush leads a nation much changed from the one when he took office in January 2001. The Sept. 11 attacks have changed everything, from the shape of government and the health of the economy to the conduct of U.S. foreign policy.


Public perceptions of the president's personal strengths are his biggest asset today.


Nearly two-thirds of those polled described Bush as likable, strong and intelligent. A majority said he is dependable and honest.


Bush is likely to need to draw on those personal strengths as he pursues an aggressive second-term agenda.

2. Other polls will come out

We will see how people are acting in a few months. There are serious worries about going into Iran now. The economy is in a semi-rising state, but has been slow the last 2-3 days. Social security reform is being discussed.

Time will tell how this goes, but one poll is not enough to be worried about.

People like to blame problems on the media, but the media doesn't see everything. Be patient, and watch for trends.

3. Intelligent? In what universe could he possibly be considered intelligent?

Intelligent people can put words together to form a complete sentence that makes sense. Intelligent people are not known for falling off couches because the eat a pretzel. Intelligent people don't need ear mikes so they can have someone else read a speech for them as they talk.
