The disconnect comes because the Radical Rightwing is very skilled at invoking a worldview in people's minds which is totally foreign (and to all appearances insane) to Progressives. I'd suggest before we start lowering ourselves to third-grade name-calling, we do a bit of reading.

about 350 years of slavery, another one hundred years of legalized segregation and discrimination, and only about 40 years of anything different.

Why would anyone want to reduce that record of well-documented bigotry to "3rd grade name calling?" Were those bigots just "misinformed" as well?

Bigotry is the same weapon that's been used for eons, against any group those in power have wanted to disenfranchise, whether due to race, religion, nationality, sex, social status, political philosophy, etc. A basic high school class in propaganda devices helped me to know the difference between an "evil doer" and a leader spreading propaganda about another religious group in order to benefit himself financially.

At what stage did so many Americans have so many Americans missed the boat? Perhaps your suggested reading list would help to answer the question? I have a list of my own books to read right now, so why not make your point?

When Bush's domestic and foreign policies start to hit the RWers where it hurts, they may start to put two and two together, but I won't hold my breath. The logic goes:

What isn't taken into account is that he's a puppet for Cheney and others who are very devious and have brains. All Bush does is memorize speeches and read cue cards. He is, in his own words, "a media creation".
