Does anyone know which of the candidates oppose Yucca Mountain?

It's sad to see a bunch of adults talking as if there is something more important than the environment when the handling of the environment will determine whether the youth of America get a chance to grow up. In fact, there is something downright immoral about not putting the environment first.

Dean was one of the people pushing Yucca Mountain. Most of us in Southern California will have to decide between living and leaving the state if it is built. Does anyone know if one of the others candidates will stop it. Wellington Webb is an environmentalist. What is he willing to do to put a stop to Yucca?

I am in So Cal and traveled to NV on the weekends to work for Kerry. Yucca Mountain was one of my big pushing points. I was surprised how many people in NV just didn't care about that issue at all.

2. This is getting downright absurd

I understand that people hold certain issues to be sacrosant, and when a person is running for public office, where their decisions and vote determine policy, I can understand this kind of litmus test. I can also understand that the chair of the DNC should mirror, to some significant degree, the party platform, but whether or not a candidate for chair supports Yucca mountain is simply not a persuasive issue. Your post strikes me as someone grasping at reasons to oppose Dean. I don't get these types of posts. Don't like Dean? Why not just say so? If all you have against him is this, then that's not a good enough reason to reject him for this position. Personally, I don't see Dean as some savior of the left, but I do think his positives outweigh his negatives, and I think I have a pretty good understanding of the guy. I've lived in Vermont since the beginning of his political career.

He says when you run for national office you must not just look out for your own state, you must think nationally.

But I doubt you would agree with that, you would rather argue.

Which of his positions are we to believe. His candidate conversion or his use of his office to push and back Yucca Mountain.

To fail to make the environment our number one concern shows that we don't care about future generations. No wonder young people are re-registering as Republicans. What's the difference -except for the Kucinich's and Webb's and Kerry's and Kennedy's. Those Democrats who do not consider this the number one issue need to look at their own children and ask why their children's lives mean less to them than a temporary popular fad. The Democratic Party needs to be the Party that stands up for the environment.

Where are we going to store all the nuclear waste? I fear for the environment as much as anyone else but the fact remains that we need a permanent storage for our nuclear waste. It will remain radioactive for thousands of years and must be stored in a very secure and safe place. If not Yucca Mountain, where?
