John Kerry in Vietnam photo used in campaign ad and Al Gore

The John Kerry campaign had an ad in Iowa which included a photograph of Kerry in Vietnam.

Al Gore was also in Vietnam, but I don't recall his campaign using a photo of him there in ads.

Did Al Gore ever use a photo of himself in Vietnam in a campaign ad?

If not, perhaps it would have given him more votes by fighting the liberal-stereotype of Democrats.

Not dissing it, he was in danger too. But that is probably the difference. And the ad was more about his crew's support than the war itself. He's okay with the average guy, he's paid his dues, that sort of thing.

Not to take anything away from Gore, but he was working for a military newspaper in Vietnam, I don't recall ever hearing about him ever being involved directly in combat. Granted though, he was over there while Bush was doing cocaine and driving into hedges in Maine.

he served honorably, but he did not compile the record of heroism that John Kerry did, nor did his conscience or ideals later move him to become a leader of the anti-war movement.

Kerry's got credentials that no one else has.

but I'm sure Gore used a photo from his Vietnam days in a TV ad. I remember because one of the things that really bugged me in 2000 was how * was being served up as some sort of military hero, while Gore's actual, *completed* service was getting no play. Then I saw a Gore spot, montage of stills, one of them was a b&w photo of Gore in a boonie hat, sleeves rolled up, interviewing another soldier I think. It was a candid shot.

His campaign used one photograph of him crouched on the ground with a rifle, and it was immediately disparaged by the press because he didn't have a combat assignment. The ad was pulled and replaced with one featuring the above-mentioned military journalist photo.

It happened pretty fast and was probably buried by the media's breathless trashing of earth tones, alpha males, and George Bush's alcoholism, AWOL, and cocaine use. Oh, wait, they didn't cover the last three.
