I was driven to tears by his story of how
asthma kept him out of West Point. I know he
was studying to be a nuclear physicist when
a talent scout heard him singing in the shower
one day and brought him straight to Ed Sullivan,
and then he went on to almost single handed build Las
Vegas into what it has become. Still, I was
surprised when he went into quite an involved
analysis of the differences between Wittgenstein
and Foucault on the origin of language. I'm sorry
that Larry pretended to be snoring, but Wayne took it
good natured and told the story of losing his virginity
on the stage of the Flamingo when he was 27. All in all,
a sterling performance by a humble, lovely and brilliant
singer, raconteur, entrepreneur, and bon vivant. Cheers.
