What are the politcal implications of the battle over Social Security "reform" (read: destruction) and its implementation?

For example, will it make more people invest, and make them think like investors and therefore help the Republicans gain votes? Or will it make people want to protect the market more and insist on good oversight of the market and thus help dems?

How will it affect the 2006 Congressional race?

Basically, if you were an advisor to Bush, what would you tell him were the political reasons for doing it or not doing it. Thanks.

8. I realize that my answer didn't really touch on what you were asking.

However, I am so tired and cynical at this point, I have to conclude that nothing anyone says--no reality check that's put forward--will change Bush's mind and pondering the implications of his "SS reform" is useless. I am also old--well, sorta--and on Social Security, which I paid into for a whole lotta years and which I am now depending on to help fund my future. Maybe the "proposed reform" won't affect me--I'm praying like crazy that it won't--but it will affect my kids and grandkids and a whole lot of other citizens who have every right to expect a return on their investment from a program that is nowhere near insolvent or in imminent danger of collapsing as Bush would have us believe. As for the political implications--I suspect there will be no negative political fallout from anything Bush proposes now or ever. Remember: Ignorance is strength. War is Peace. Slavery is Freedom. Just a few of the reasons I remain:

3. It is the 'third rail' of politics and normally I'd tell him stay away

but I can't gag Bush and his neoconmen so I'd tell him to go for it and get thoroughly FRIED on that third rail ! And his little dog too.

This is plainly obvious...Every GOP Senator/Congresscritter that supported private accounts was re-elected. Bush ran on private investment accounts his first term and ALMOST won the election...This time he ran AGAIN saying this would be one of his main goals, and he received 3 Million++ more votes than Kerry.

It is no longer the third rail of politics.

7. Social Security also covers under aged children....

when the parents or the head-of-the household dies. My father died when I was 2 years old, I received SS benefits until 18. It was not much, it helped my Mom out of Welfare, put food on the table, and kept me in school.

How will the orphant children of this nation survive? Not on Welfarel since it's gone too.
