Dear John,

You're going to fight Rumsfeld with an e-petition? Great.

Where were you when Barbara Boxer was the only person in the Senate railing against voter disenfranchisement? Where were your convictions that day?

Your MLK day speech was a day late, and a dollar short.

You got the nomination because it was beleived you were 'electable'. Not because of what you believed in, not because you were riding an ideological wave in to the White House.

You didn't inspire anybody; and we gave you every opportunity.

The party is doomed to have people like you driving them through the
wilderness until someone stands up and starts loudly speaking truth to
power. Until you find it within yourself to do so, you've lost my vote.

Dear David,

Earlier today, I voted in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee against the nomination of Dr. Condoleezza Rice for Secretary of State. This vote is an
expression of my determination that we hold the Bush administration accountable.

Dr. Rice is a principal architect, implementer, and defender of a series of Administration policies that have not made our country as secure as we
should be and have alienated much-needed allies in our common cause of winning the war against terrorism. Regrettably, I did not see in Dr. Rice's
testimony before our committee any acknowledgment of the need to change course or of a new vision for America's role in the world.

On Iraq, on North Korea, on Iran, to name just a few of the most critical challenges, it seems to be more of the same. I hope I am proven wrong. I hope
the course will change. And I hope that the Administration will recognize the strength of a foreign policy that has bipartisan support.

I am prepared to work with Dr. Rice and others in the Administration to try to reach agreement on policies that will truly strengthen our security and
restore America's credibility on the world stage. And I am confident colleagues on both sides of the aisle are prepared to do so as well.

But, we've got to remain firm in our insistence that those who create policies that don't work have the courage to admit their mistakes and the wisdom

He failed to show up for the vote on the matter in the Senate. He was out of the country on a photo-op in Iraq. Evidently, that was more important to him than if the vote was, in any way, rigged. It was more important to him than standing for his principals, for his values.

Bitter? You've lost both houses of Congress, the White House (twice), and now Bush has four more years to stack the Bench. Your view of 'positivity', and mainstream Democratic thinking on how to play hardball, has put a deathmark on liberalism and perhaps on Democracy in this country.

Yes, I voted for him and campaigned for him, but after he conceded, I don't recall ever hearing him speak out about these matters.

I am not a Kerry basher per se, but I do have trouble with people who don't stand up and speak to the people directly.

I sat on the fence during the primaries, altho I was leaning toward Clark when he dropped out and Kerry was the presumptive nominee. After that, I was K/E all the way.

Today (I wasn't able to watch last night's confirmation hearings) I was once again impressed by the man. He and Boxer were the only 2 people who had the guts to 'put their money where their mouth is'. Does that excuse his silence to the people? I'd have to say yes, since he is now back to the job he has held for so many years... a respectable US Senator.

I heard so many on the committee say they had 'concerns' about Rice's credibility, but when push came to shove, they voted for her.........Kudos to the 2 who didn't and one of them was Kerry. The other is Boxer (my former Senator, since I lived in CA for years and voted for her twice).

The timing of these posts is always so weird. Right after a good and/or positive action, someone comes up with one of these. Not saying anything, except it always makes me feel like someone has decided to plug his ears and eyes and just not get it.

I suspect that certain people will never get over this behavior, not matter what the man does. I'm not looking for everyone to be a supporter, but it would be nice to see the breast beating slow down. Surely their bumpy bits are quite concave by now.

On deciding where the problem with the Party lies, I'm gonna go with "David Williams" representing it here rather than "John Kerry".

My response to this response is "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing." It will take a minor beating with the Clue Stick to clear up all the implicit fallacies to this OP. But suffice it to say: voters voted for Republicans on November 2 because of perceived Democratic selfrighteousness on foreign policy, perceived Democratic ideas of entitlement based in inadequate ideology, and to a smaller degree perceived Democratic fudging on domestic social policy. Notice how this has everything to do with the sense of the Party, heavily flavored by the Dean contingent's behavior, and Kerry is quite a bit less responsible for the appearances of these things than alleged.

Notice also that Kerry is expending himself in reestablishing Democratic credibility in foreign affairs, is leaving the internal ideological fight well enough alone, and isn't wasting any time on domestic social policy (which is out of his hands).

And that's about the most restrained possible response I can give you. Train your guns on getting other Democrats in line and working for the good of the whole, Kerry is part of the solution and not part of the problem now.

and ask oneself what part one also played in that loss. Must be comforting to put all the responsibility and blame on someone else. And how very Bush-like. Mistakes? Me?

At least when Kerry made campaign mistakes, he changed course and corrected.

If others in our party are too willing to place the blame on Kerry without reserving some of it for ourselves, then we will learn nothing from this election, except to think that if we just pick someone new, it will all be better.

He was one of the few even talking fight right then. That same week Clinton came out all conciliatory, and Kerry talked of fighting the Bush agenda and not going away. Now it seems many of the Dems feel this way. I hope they keep it up.

When the objection to the Ohio electors was raised, Kerry was in the Middle East gathering information that he put to very good use in the Condi Rice hearings today and yesterday.
