During MSNBC's coverage of President Bush's inauguration, radio host and MSNBC contributor and analyst Monica Crowley (formerly of FOX News), made the misleading claim that "people in their 20s, 30s, and 40s, are very enthusiastic about the idea of controlling some of their own money and not allowing the government to do it for them." But a Media Matters for America analysis of six recent polls that examine the issue suggests that younger Americans' support for private accounts is not as clear as Crowley claimed: (1) some polls indicate a significant drop in support for privatization among all age groups when the potential realities of such a system -- decreased guaranteed benefits and $2 trillion in transition costs -- are included in the questions; and (2) some polls also show that there is far less support for private accounts among those in their 30s and 40s as compared to workers aged 18-29.

As Paul Krugman points out, $2 trillion is only the beginning of the cost to taxpayers. It will take about $15 trillion of borrowing over time for the program to possibly beginning to start to return its investment.

I don't recall ever having heard the woman in question since I no longer have cable. But htose who have heard her owe it to all Democrats to write to the tv station and point out her lies and her obvious ArmstrongWilliams-izing of administration programs.

It would take a few minutes more than making two posts on DU to just pull down an email form and send off of message.

1st time she was on MSNBC I wrote them & told them to throw her back! Compared her to a wickedly screwed up cross between Ann Coulter & Rona Barrett, suggested they sell her contract at a very reduced rate to Faux News, & asked them to please get a big ol' washrag & wash some of the excessive makeup off her face before someone accused them of pimping instead of reporting - inquired whether they were so hard up they had to take right wing hand-me-downs, I was worried that they would get something really yucky on their pants if they had to share news chairs.

In those words.
I REALLLLY didn't like her ... it only took one time to figure that out!

Obviously, they don't value my humble opinion! HUMPH!

Where did Crowley go to school? I do know that she was a "Foreign Policy Assistant" to Nixon from 1990 until he died, (according to her official bio)

* Crowley baselessly claimed that Germany was among the "countries that dealt with Saddam Hussein, possibly illegally" in the oil-for-food scandal.
* Crowley echoed the false claim of numerous FOX News Channel anchors that an elementary school in Cupertino, California, "banned" the Declaration of Independence because it mentioned God.
* Crowley misrepresented the findings of the 9-11 Commission in an effort to justify her support for a controversial national database that would track college students and maintain personal information about them.
