An Estimated 500 Students Walked Out In Protest

SEATTLE -- Students walking out of Seattle Central Community College to protest the inauguration of President Bush confronted two Army recruiters in a hallway.

The students tore up the Army brochures and threw them on the floor. After a ten-minute standoff the recruiters retreated and were escorted from the college by security guards.

About 500 students from the community college were met outside by about 500 students from the University of Washington.

They planned to march to downtown Seattle for rallies at Westlake Center and the federal Courthouse.

7. As a former ROTC student, I think it's hilarious ...

People have to deal with the fact that signing young adults up to get their asses shot off is just not all that popular. <eg>

During the fall of 1978, I noted a fellow ROTC transfer student wearing a "Kent State ROTC" patch on her fatigues. First I laughed my ass off thinking it must be some kind of sick joke. However, she informed me that Kent State ROTC never dissolved despite the national tragedy of four students being shot dead by the guard.

Bizarre but it also stands to reason that "armed guards" had to be posted at each and every one of their (Kent State Military Science) classes.

Damn! Although I'm proud of our military and my ancestors have served back to the Civil War, I think it would have been appropriate to shut down the Kent State ROTC for at least a decade after the shootings (4 May 1970).

Guess there's no time for empathy with our resident WARMONGERS ... freedom must keep on the march! :P
