Poll question: Ever seen a schizophrenic person yelling at someone they didn't like...

...who wasn't really there? When they yell, complain, accuse, and rehash, but there's nobody really listening because they're not really speaking to the person they think they are?

Does it remind you of people here who act like they're complaining to the party leadership, but on an Internet message board instead of personally?

It takes an AVERAGE of eight years for people with schizophrenia or similar illnesses to get their chemistry balanced.

Eight YEARS. No matter we have the tech, it doesn't get delivered.

So, what's eight YEARS ON AVERAGE out of any family's life? Sure, I can laugh at this stuff, but man, it isn't always easy.

Stuff happens. And actually, some of the biggest laughs I ever have had are from talking to people like my husband and the group I mod.

Because korrectness just isn't a factor.

11. I had a psychology professor in college...

...who at the beginning of the semester explained that he sometimes uses humor in talking about some of the more disturbing things we'd learn about and that it could be something that helped us and even him deal with all that.

I can understand why maybe twenty, thirty, fourty years ago the correctness was good and necessary though, because people suffering from mental illnesses were treated so inhumanely...the comments would be more likely a dehumanizing phenomenon than a therapeutic one.

12. Also, it's interesting you mention the comedian angle...

...because since I was very young I've liked to make people laugh, but I'm very aware that a lot of comedy is complemented by some very dark things. Like after I started going through depression as a teenager, I saw comedy as an important thing, something that makes you feel good to be alive, something you should spread to other people to help them feel good and to make life interesting too. I'm fascinated by this "dark side" that a lot of comedians have, like how Andy Kaufman had a sense of grief after the passing of his grandfather who used to perform magic tricks and sing at his birthday parties, and he took up that role as an entertainer at children's parties and it eventually became a lot of his original act as a comedian.

8. I've Always Thought That...

we should give those folks broken cell phones. That way they could scream into something, which would make them seem more normal, and we wouldn't be so frightened of them.

…and it reminds me of when I write to my repuke US Representative. For all the good it does, I may as well wander the streets yelling at nothing.
