Will Blogs like DU drive the Democrats away from *ush?

I am more well informed than ever thanks to DU. I know when to watch C-span - so I actually do watch C-span. I know who supports what issue. Who votes which way. I have been a political junkie for years. But you don't get the raw facts from Tweety, Wolf, or Crossfire or even Newsweek or the New York Times. This HAS to have an effect on Democrats who are used to people reading only newspapers and watching CNN.

This is the single best place to find out what is going on. It is also a great place to learn, argue and sort out what is happening. I find that many times I am unclear about something and I come here. By reading all the different takes on things I am often able to clear up my own thoughts.

8. not really. 99% of blogs are preaching to the choir.

HOWEVER, blogs can (and have) apply pressure to issues which force coverage by mainstream outlets. That coverage can have the effect of influencing the national discourse and possibly converting some to our side.

But as far as some swing voter stumbling across dailykos.com (as an example) and having their whole world open up...highly, highly doubtful. Same goes for DU.

9. Yes - but the Choir is better informed - isn't that a big deal?

The can't just assume they will have support of the base. I'm wondering if we will have a similar effect to the effect the Christian Right has had on the Republicans. Maybe we'll always have to support the Dems we have because it is all we have - or maybe we will be better able to ferret out the types we want in the Primaries.

10. I am amazed

by what I've learned here in the last two months. I never watched c-cpan until Jan. 6. I'd never emailed or faxed a federal senator or rep. I don't think DU will drive Democrats away from *ush as much as it will inform and educate them about things MSM doesn't. Blogs, and more so, forums like DU seem to be a great equalizer. As more people find them, the less relevant corporate news will become.

18. I meant Democrats in the Senate and the House.

By having their constituents more informed - will it make it tougher for them to vote along with the Bush administration. I think it is clear that until Dean came along - people didn't realize how much the average American hates Bush. Now that average Americans can be even more well informed, it might make it hard to vote for an unnecessary war, etc.

compared to what one can accomplish in the real world. Unfortunately many think posting at DU consititutes productivity and they do little or nothing else.

After the election, I made a vow to myself to get myself better educated on exactly what was going on with this deplorable administration. I have learned so much from DU. I just recently joined, but have been reading here since right after the election. I love it here!
