If Robert Byrd does not make it to the end of the year...who will replace him? He looks very very diminished and I would not be suprised if the end was near, bless his heart and I hope I am wrong. Does the Gov of WV select his replacement, and is the Gov Dem or repuke?

is the Governor of West Virginia. As you might expect, although he is a Dem he wouldn't exactly be called a Liberal in a lot of places. Gun control for example is NOT a popular idea in WV and Manchin is against it. Nonetheless, from what I have heard of him (not much) I like him.
I can't confirm it with a link but I am fairly sure he would pick Byrd's replacement if that was needed.
