I found out about this guy in Louisiana through his common-sense comments on the state anti-gay amendment (which was just RE-instated in LA):
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2005-01-19-la-marriage_x.htmHe's running for Louisiana House and he's the first openly gay, progressive candidate to do so in the state. He used to work for Equality Louisiana and now he's trying his beliefs in the political realm. He may be a small dot on the national scale, but on the large scale and the state scale he means a lot to me (and I am not even from Louisiana).
The election is on January 29th. If you know anyone in Louisiana* please let them know to get out and vote in this special election. And if you know anyone with just a little money to spare, please let them know that his campaign is in need of funds and can use it for good.

http://www.chrisdaigleforhouse.com/contribute/index.htmlThis is what he said about the stupid anti-gay amendment (from the first link):
But gay rights activist and state legislative candidate Chris Daigle said the amendment did nothing to strengthen the institution of marriage.
"High divorce rates, high adultery rates, poverty, lack of education, parents having to hold more than one job, those are the real threats to marriage," he said. *Edited to add: he is in District 96
