The vote against Rice’s confirmation was the highest against a nominee for secretary of state at least since World War II. Henry Kissinger was approved 78-7, Dean Acheson 83-6 and Alexander Haig 93-6.

Twelve Democrats and one independent, Sen. James M. Jeffords of Vermont, opposed Rice’s confirmation. Several other Democrats criticized U.S. policy and Rice’s role in helping to shape it as President Bush’s assistant for national security.

But led by Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr., D-Del., they deferred to President Bush as having the prerogative to select his Cabinet.

4. My Letter to Sen. Biden

Senator Biden:

I am highly disappointed in you, not to mention many other Senate Democrats, after reading an article on MSNBC.com regarding the full Senate vote on the confirmation on Condoleeza Rice as Secretary of State.

One particular quote from the article caught my eye: "But led by Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr., D-Del., they deferred to President Bush as having the prerogative to select his Cabinet."

It is correct that a President of the United States has a right to nominate who he wishes. However, I don't need to remind you that the United States Senate has a responsibility for advise and consent. You are not there to be a rubber stamp on any President's nominations.

By voting for Condoleeza Rice, you have essentially rewarded incompetence, which is what George Bush does. And that's not something to be proud of.

Condoleeza Rice's nomination troubled me because she is not qualified to be Secretary of State. The record is clear that she did not understand or do her job as National Security Adviser. When former White House Counter-terrorism Coordinator Richard Clarke sent an urgent and important memo to Condoleeza Rice in January 2001, asking for a principle's meeting to discuss the grave threat posed by Al Qaeda, he was rebuffed, and told it was inappropriate for him to ask for a principle's meeting.

As one of the principle architechts of the Iraq war, she lied to the American people about the threat Iraq posed to us. Moreover, I believe that she lacks one of the qualities essential for the nation's top diplomat: the ability to reach out to other nations in a productive way. Instead of using her confirmation hearing to really talk about how she wanted to work with other nations, she talked about "outposts of tyranny."

I am disappointed that only 12 Democratic Senators did the right thing and opposed Condoleeza Rice's nomination. I can only hope that those of you who voted for her have buyer's regret, because you allowed yourselves to be derilect in your duties of advise and consent, and allowed yourselves to be sold a bill of goods by an incompetent administration.

If the Democratic Party should have learned anything from November 2, is that it didn't help the Party to run as Bush Lite. People in this country are hungry for leadership, and are hungry for politicians who can really offer them hope and solutions. You can't do that when you reward incompetence.

8. You have to understand what Biden is to understand these votes

Biden is a neo-liberal, an empire lover, and they need people like Condy real bad.

On the Republican side you have people like Ron Paul rising against Bush because he recognizes the neo cancer eating away at the Republican party.

On our side we have people like Biden. NeoConservatives and neoLiberals are both working off the same agenda and towards the same goals. Check out the latest PNAC letter written to Russia. It's signed by Joe Biden himself.

Remember Condy's formation? Sovietologist? Cold war warrior as well as the rest of the PNACers.

This should not surprise any of us. The cancer eating away at our country right now is the New World Order cancer that BOTH the neoLiberals and neoCons are working towards. It's the neo part people need to be very, very afraid of.

Biden is pure shit. The Cold War is back and they want it that way.
