How Could You Like Clark?
Edited on Sun Dec-21-03 07:47 PM by lillib
He has faught in at least 3 wars and probably is reponsible for 100's or 1000's of deaths of not only women and children, but men. I cant think of anything good about electing a person who kills people. He is a soldier. He belongs in the army, where people who kill people are, not in our white house.

Havent we had enough war?

I have.

Thanks... sorry if this is ofensive.. but when I think about how many people he killed i get sick.

which is evident in his speeches, etc.

3. Deep Analysis
What you say isn't even wrong. It simply can not be analyzed in meaningful terms: it's a curt example of words divorced from any meaning whatever.

But what's semantics when there's smearing to do?

You might want to re-read his 10 pledges. It's the most direct and cogent statement by any candidates on use of force and U.S. policy. If he were to be elected POTUS, I think this is a pretty good indication of how he will operate.

15. direct question
do you have a poor image of all people that have served and are serving in the military or just General Clark because he's running for President?

2. Because he ended a genocide
Unlike those who would rather have clean hands than prevent the murder and dislocation of hundreds of thousands, and get flip and faux-offended about it online.

4. I can understand
that pacifists would have a very hard time with a General. But even some of them could get to trust him if they learned more about him IMHO.

Many, many, many representatives in our government have served in the military. Many will be hawkish on foreign policy questions (not all). But Clark does not fit that hawkish mold.

7. You can like him because
1. He is running as a Democrat
2. He fought in wars, sacrificing his personal safety for service to our country, that's honorable. Those who started the wars were not (Viet Nam, Yugoslavia)
3. He's pro-abortion.

You don't have to support him as your first choice to consider him a far better alternative to Bush.

9. Lets see Bush is not part of the Military establishment...
Edited on Sun Dec-21-03 07:52 PM by Democrats unite
How many people has he helped kill?

I think Clark being part of the establishment and seeing it first hand for what it can do is only a plus for him, he knows what it can do.

And if you knew a little about our History, you would know the few Generals we have had, were President during peacetime.

It's people who talk tough on war who has never experienced it that scare the hell out of me!

on edit: removed sarcasm due to holiday season.

13. Obviously you haven't read up on your US History
Edited on Sun Dec-21-03 07:52 PM by RatTerrier
This country was founded on a Revolutionary WAR.

Slavery ended because of a war.

Tyrannical regimes were ended or curtailed because of war.

I'm not a big fan of war, but sometimes it is an inevitability. And being secure is something some people take for granted.

Wes Clark was willing to give his life for his country (and even sacrificed part of his leg). Howard Dean hit on snowbunnies for the sake of his country.

17. You forget...
Those who did not serve personally. Like Clinton, FDR, Truman, Eisenhower.

Good, powerful men who killed in their nation's name.

Don't kid yourself. Whoever gets elected president is going to take lives, directly or indirectly.

16. The Clark supporters *do* lay the military rhetoric on pretty thick.
Edited on Sun Dec-21-03 07:56 PM by poskonig
Hence, I can understand why you get a militarist impression from the campaign.

I would point out that Clark's experience and professionalism would be a sharp contrast to Bush's ineptitude in executing various strategies around the world. A Clark presidency would make the entire world, including the United States, a much safer place.

and there's something real odd about it.

I can't quite put my finger on it, but let's just say the tone of it is a lil' "off"

23. Sorry, you guys are wrong
Vietnam did not help me be able to post here freely. If he had any decency he would not have went to fight there. Many objected and retained their dignity.

How did killing people in yogoslavia help me?

Next you will be telling me killing iraqi's is helping my freedom.

If you guys want to replace one repugnant killer with another one .. i guess thats your choice..

24. You probably don't realise this yet but
things like your post don't draw a lot of support from the grownups.

Hopefully, most people will just ignore you until you have some time to learn the truth about the world, and how people actually live in it.

For example, the father of this President, the first President Bush was a fighter pilot in World War II. His son, of course, did manage to use his daddy's connections to stay out of Viet Nam, but that wasn't because he gave a shit about killing anyone else. He was happy enough when he was Governor of Texas to put whole slews of people to death.

There have been several Presidents who have been generals, from Eisenhower on back, and their "killing people" didn't have much impact on what they did in office.

The major event in Clark's career? He helped saved a million and a half people from genocide in the Baltics. That was a little more than five years ago, though I'm not surprised you aren't aware of it.

Much easier to listen to slogans.
