Poll shows Bush support on Social Security

A majority of Americans, including nearly one-third of Democrats, support President Bush's proposal to let workers voluntarily invest part of their Social Security payroll taxes in stocks and bonds, a nationwide poll shows.
Despite a blistering national newspaper ad campaign against Mr. Bush's plan by the AARP and a growing chorus of daily attacks by Democrats, a survey of 1,004 likely voters slated to be released today finds strong public support for the idea, particularly among workers younger than 50.

In fact, it may be worse, because it's just one step up from being a tabloid but bills itself as a real newspaper - it chronically reports sensationalist news with sensationalist headlines and is so biased in a right-wing direction that it doesn't even bother to pretend that it's fair journalism. And it's shocking how many people in Pittsburgh buy that piece of tripe every day.

9. Bush's Social Security proposal is part of a larger Rove strategy

to make the republican party the majority party for the next 40 years or so. Bush's plan is intended to attract the support of voters under 30 who will be angry at the democratic party if his plan is defeated. This is why Rove chose Social Security to be one of Bush's most important domestic issues even though both Medicare and Medicaid present a much more serious financial problem for the country in the future. Rove wants to create as many new lifetime young republicans as possible.

The democrats need to make it as plain as can be that Bush is lying to the country about the Social Security "crisis."
