His father was an active republican, for all I know his mother still is. He's always been friendly with Jeffords, and got along well enough with other reasonable Vermont style repubs, but it was a stupid thing to say. I heard him say it and almost didn't notice it; as it wasn't said in an angry tone. Anyone from Vermont would recognize this as a classic Dean slip. I thought he'd learned not to insert his foot in his mouth. Guess not. Although I wish he wouldn't do this, I always found his not being overly careful in his speech part of his charm. Still, on the national stage, remarks like this are amplified, and it's not good.

Or do you think a better topic would be SS and how the Bush plan is unnecesary and dangerous? When he says things like this it changes the topic, because it is easier for the MSM to report crap like this then real discussion. And for so many people to vote that they agree with the statement in the OP is, yes most definitely disappointing to me. and that's about us, not the "Radical RW".

It's also sad that many of the Democrats posting here have forgotten some of our core values. Personally, I don't think it is a "value" to despise our political opposition or the people that voted for them. i don't hate my aunt and uncles who are republicans. I hate their racist talk, undiversified views, and general philosophy of life but I do not hate THEM. They have actually been extreemly helpfull and kind to me on many occasions, and I hope to have a chance to change their views at some point, if only a little.

As much as I love Howard Dean, I am not found of that statement. We need to reach out to republcans and try to convince them with love and understanding, not meeting hate with more hate. We need to take the higher ground and lead them there, show them that god is love, and the greatest sin of all is ignoring him, in ignoring the love in our own hearts.

So is it love/hate that provokes God to kill billions of people? Many references to hate by God are in the Bible and God even says to hate evil so if some repubs are evil then they merit evil. In retrospect though some are actually in sympathy with the evil even though they may not have committed evil however, I say if one knows of the evil and goes along with it that one is evil and merits hate.
