Webb to Drop out and endorse Dean

The Associated Press is reporting that former Denver Mayor Wellington Webb has dropped out of the race for Democratic National Committee Chair and will throw his support behind Howard Dean.

This comes as no surprise to us here at Colorado Pols. We've been saying for weeks that Webb wasn't getting much support from Colorado politicos, and Congresswoman Diana DeGette (D-Denver) was even going out of her way to badmouth Webb, going so far as to call him a buffoon to some of her capitol hill colleagues.

What's next for Webb? Probably nothing. His influence had been dwindling for years in Colorado, and his failure to generate any momentum in the DNC race is a clear sign that any national clout he may have once had has also faded (most of the candidates he has backed for office in Denver in the past few election cycles have been handily defeated as well).

I've heard from some high-level officials in my state party that Dean's support is running about 70% right now. The DNC Chair positions is Dean's to lose...

6. On the bandwagon

I'm on the Dean bandwagon. I think he'll do a lot of good as DNC chairman. Help move the party back to the left, and help the 2008 presidential canditate with progressive votes. He's also certainly the man to update the dem's online presense.

8. Perhaps but...

you heard a lot of "the Democrats need to move more to the center uf they have any chance of winning" after the 2004 election. I don't think that's right. I think the democractic party should be more progressive, if anything. It's not that the country is more conservative, it's just that the GOP has done a better job of selling their image... Dean is a good pitchman, though. And that's what the DNC chairman is, in my opinion.

and the wrong move. You need to win the middle in American politics. But you can do that with populism and better framing.
